Must haves for a range bag?

For handguns I use the Boyt, and my wife uses the Duluth Pack range bags in the attached review. Great bags, not too big, bought during sales.

Have gun bag, will travel: 5 Best range bags

It seems most everyone else we shoot with uses a Midway or 5.11.

For long guns we use LaRue Tactical (I also like their range bags.)

Inside the bags, Hearing protection is in hard cases, mags are in carriers, stapler came with case, eye / sun glasses in hard cases, ballcaps for stray brass, and handguns are in pistol rugs.

What we carry also varies widely with where and what we are shooting. (e.g. if it is remote we carry more first aid and tools, if we are shooting more than 300 rounds or shotgun we carry an ammo can, light duty stapler for cardboard, heavy duty stapler for wood frames, brass bag / garbage bag for informal range pick-up, a folding foam board 12 x 18 target case, etc ).

I always bring gloves but I never use them for even a minute before I take em off again.

I used to use the socks also, A long time ago some one pointed out the dangers of sticking your hand in a sock to grab a possible loaded firearm. I no longer use the socks.

If that statement scared you from using those, you need a latte and safe space.

you should know if its loaded. You should know if your finger is on the trigger.

I have a relatively short carbine length shotgun and rifle I'll put in a VTAC two gun bag. It works as a regular carry case but it also has a decent backpack harness so you can carry your long guns and keep one hand free plus your pistol range bag. You can do a 3-gun match like this if you're rugged enough.

For trap I have an inexpensive soft Boyts to throw the long shotgun in, and a Pelican for serious travel. Mostly it's for hiding from busybodies.

One thing I see missing is a wooden dowel close to the interior diameter of the barrel to help clear a squib round.

It sure does until I see what you have, follow you home, locate your residence, wait for you to leave, then break into your house.

It doesn't happen often but the chance is there. If I ever become a criminal, that's how I will acquire firearms. It's so easy.

I need a wagon to move mine around!! I clean it out an a week later it's back to being too heavy again! I do have one of Midways range bags for quite a few years now.

I keep my speed loaders, a pistol cleaning kit that has rods in it, bags (I pick up my shells for @Rescuestuff who reloads), blue tape (for targets), staple gun + staples, eyes, ears (2 sets), target patch stickers, some sight tools, chokes...I think that's it.

When I finally decide to head to the range, I wind up "...taking that...and that...and okay...a few rounds through that..." I wind up with my pack, ammo boxes, and rifle cases. A quick trip soon entails three loads from my front hallway to my trunk.

Absolutely the most important items. Apart from the gun and ammo, personal protection equipment. Something happens to you on the range, how long will it take for help to arrive? Have an IFAK, Trauma kit, and most importantly, know how to use it. Too many people take it for granted.

My range tool box has saved many others day at the range by fixing this and that. In the winter we have to pack in, toboggan and firewood cutting gear. We look like refugees on the Russian front.
