6.5 Creedmoor
Last year I ordered my EG15 lower from BulletGuy (not the FUAC model, didn't want the initials to sully my rifle) and recently picked it up from him at the Syracuse Gun Show.
This is not my first build/assembly, so I was able to put more thought into what I was going to do with it. My first rifle build has a Thordsen stock, which isn't bad, but the stock was a bit pricey. I decided I wanted to go for a scoped rifle build, to get into some medium-distance shooting. Since I didn't want to go fixed-mag route and mess with separating the receivers with a scope sitting on top, I did some more research. Read on!
So I brought my shiny (okay, it's matte) lower home, and immediately throw the lowest-price Lower Parts Kit into it, right? ORRRRR I could pimp it out a little. We're talking titanium pivot pins, gold-plated rollpins and all that... Okay maybe not that fair, I still need money to buy ammo, but let's replace some of the standard "mil-spec" items.
I started with the basic Brownells LPK, but replaced almost everything -
Buffer tube is a Spikes Tactical Mil-Spec tube with T2 buffer and and Stainless "17-7" buffer spring. Seems much higher quality than the no-name 'Mil-Spec' buffer tube assembly I had originally. I also have a Strike Industries 'flat' buffer spring; I'll try shooting with both to see which I like more.
Then I slapped a Hera Arms CQR stock on it and went to town!
Oh boy, that looks a little evil. And I think I heard sirens in the distance; better replace it with a fixed stock and Spur Grip.
Sigh.
Initial thoughts on the Spur Grip - not that bad actually, at least with the 'Patrick Henry' trigger guard. That extra finger grip really helps. I do think I'll need to debur some of it with a file though. Haven't taken it shooting yet, so my opinion could change when I do.
For the upper I have an Aero Precision Gen2 M4E1 (M-LOK) and a 16" Ballistic Advantage .223 Wylde Stainless Steel Mid Barrel. I also have a FailZero EXO-coated Bolt Carrier Group. (It was on sale when I bought it) Staking looks okay, I hope/think. I have a charging handle on order from Sintercore but in the mean time I have an extra MilSpec that'll work just fine. I don't have a scope yet anyway, which leads me to..
The scope I'm probably going to get the Primary Arms 1-6X Gen III, but I'm waiting for Memorial Day sales. I also have a set of AT3 Tactical offset BUIS, but I'd really like to replace with either Magpul Pros or Strike Industries Sidewinder BUIS - I'm waiting for the prices to come down a bit.
Now I have a Hera Stock whining to get used.... grrrrr.
