Finally got one of @Prominus sks's and god damn it is beautfiul. even the guy at the shop it was shipped to said he never seen one so nice. Pretty sure i scrubbed off a layer of skin getting that cosmoline off, but she's all clean now. Thank you for such a beautiful gun!

good to know, i've used it in my AR with no problem, and no extra grime to cut through, but that was pretty small amounts. what do you suggest though cause thats all i tend to see people carry in this caliber.

All the other regular cheap stuff I've used has worked well. Maybe I was just unlucky but TulAmmo has malfed on me a few different ways in less than 1000 rounds and seemed noticeably dirtier, whereas other brands have been totally fine.

i'll have to find some people who carry different brands, or order it. i picked up 200 rounds of tula today when i picked up the gun.

Btw, you haven't even started taking the cosmoline off. Hot summer day + black garbage bag in the sun. When you shoot it, and the barrel heats up, it will start weeping through the wood. Fellow comrade.

As for Wolf...it's an SKS. It will shoot ground up matcheads and rocks.

A quick search seems to say that it's made in the same Tula factory, but I think there are a few versions of it, maybe it's better, idk.

I've had good luck with MFS (Hungarian) and Red Army Standard (Ukrainian/Romanian) so far.

I wouldn't. Not until the cosmoline is all out/mostly out.

My Mosin still weeps if I fire enough in quick succession.

I did the Garbage bag thing (in the driveway), and got most of the cos out, but, I got the same problem...After using the Mosin for a while, it still gets sticky, and tacky.

I got all the cosmo off mine by boiling the metal parts in water. I took the pieces out of the water, did a really quick dry down with a towel (it drys fast because of the temperature), dumped them on another towel and doused them with WD-40.

I'm sorry the diagnosis is so harsh, but I'm afraid you'll have to shoot your new gun a lot sir.

Wolf and Tula are indeed the same. Like Darth said it's an SKS and should shoot anything. I haven't had any issues with Tula or any other ammo I've fed my Yugo.

All I shot in my Russian was Tula and wolf. No problems and not as dirty as I expected.

I never understood why they kept making the SKSfor so long. You could make an M70 in the same amount of machining.

i picked up a few more boxes today, it seemed like tey got wet on the way to the gun store. could always be a transit issue, not necesarily the ammo.
Edit: seems is actually an understatement, the steel cases on the top row and presumably the bottom row were rusted through. and it was 2 boxes.

Have had a yugo sitting in the safe for 15 years. Still haven't bothered taking off the cosmoline. Not sure if I am ever going to clean it off to be honest.
