N.C. man busted for possessing 'weapon of mass destruction'

A North Carolina man was arrested last Thursday for possessing a weapon of mass destruction, the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office announced on Facebook.

Owen Gregory Dean, 44, was apprehended after the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), North Carolina Department of Public Safety Adult Corrections (DPS) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) searched his residence in Murphy based on a tip and discovered a blasting cap. The cap was later secured safely and removed by bomb technicians.

I remember the public service ads aimed towards kids when I was growing up in the 1960's. They warned us to stay away from blasting caps and intercut images of curious kids picking them up with huge explosions. They ran frequently enough on TV to make us think these things were just lying around all over the place. In retrospect it makes me wonder just how irresponsible were construction crews if kids could just wander on to a site and pick up a blasting cap.

Don't know but I read a thread on reusing a fired primer by flattening it back out and carefully cutting out 2 caps and inserting them into the cup and then reinserting the anvil. It worked! Good to know for the end of the world scenario.
