Governors could assign National Guard members to school district, TDY, civilian dress, rotational basis as physical education assistants. Then figure out a permanent policy. I believe most bad guys will pass on location in known resistance is inside.

Wouldn't actually be that expensive. Including salary, training all the crap I can't imagine it costs more than $100k to have a deputy out on the street (I know their salary is less than this). School of 300 kids it's only $300/year per child. Cost would actually be less as the guy wouldn't need to be there during all the breaks, summer, etc. And for a larger school the cost comes down further.
This is a knee-jerk reaction "We don't want guns in our schools" and yet people have no problem with armed cops at airports and elsewhere, so if we are okay with that why are we intent on not having armed defense for the most vulnerable?

These typical political a-hole sheriffs are making President Trump look bad for wanting to have qualified teachers armed.
If these sheriffs want more police hired for schools, then they can forfeit their salaries and pensions to pay for it, F them.
Nothing against LEOs but any teacher or staffer with the right mindset could easily handle a gun and neutralize a target, I have been shooting since I was five years old--it is not like playing Mozart on the piano, these school employees could be trained just fine.

I tell my buddy all the time that his wife (she works in a high school and has a full carry permit) should carry all the time at work. Make sure it's appropriately concealed (as it should be in the first place), keep your mouth shut and go about your job. In the worse case scenario she wouldn't need to be a hero, but save her charges and herself instead of doing nothing like that piece of shit deputy in Lakeland. Anyone on this forum could've / would've done better than that utter disgrace of a LEO.

^ Seems that way to me too. Anyone in their right mind would be scared shitless to go in and engage the shooter but it needs to be done. There were and always will be teachers that throw themselves in front of their students to protect them. Give weapons to the teachers that want to be armed, and I guarantee they'll go after the shooter EVERY time

I do not find this to be a bad idea at all. Whoever gets the job needs extra training. If they use teachers, I would hope that a good training program would be mandated as well. I would snatch a job like this in a heartbeat.

You mention West Virginia, with our NYS pension, we can live like kings. My mom and her husband have been there for many years, they love it!
Yeah West Virginia is dirt cheap and likely will remain so throughout the rest of our lifespan. I’m planning to keep my house here in retirement. It’s small, cheap, and will be very close to if not paid off in 10-12 years.
