Paul Ryan shelved it. Not going to bring it up for a vote.
Personally, I don think he was ever going to let it get to a vote anyway, and Vegas was just a convenient excuse.

National reciprocity was dead when it was announced. I'm for it, it would save having a pocket full of non resident permits, but does anyone here think the likes of baby Boehner,aka Paul Ryan , was going to let this advance? Or that McConnell would move it in the senate?
I remember reading a post this site from a member who spoke to Chris Collins after a press conference about this and Collins mentioned that it was going nowhere because the NRA wanted to include some type of course, that you as an individual would have to take before getting a National Resip.

False. It isn't a federal license. It's just a federal law that a state license is to be accepted in any state.

There are 2 bills. One is from the House and one is from the Senate. The one from the House says that any state permit is valid in any state. So your Utah would work in NY. The Senate version says that your home state permit is valid in any state. So your NY permit would be valid in any state. It does have a provision though that it would be treated as an unrestricted in another state. So it would be restricted in NY if that's what you got but unrestricted everywhere else.
We want the House bill. With that one a PA permit would be valid everywhere and they have a provision where the magazine and ammo of the gun is protected. So that includes 15 rd magazines, hollow points in Jersey, ECT.

But my NY drivers license is valid in all 49 other states (and even in NYC!!) and US territories. That I believe is the goal of the bill, not to have the Feds control the permitting systems. The folks that would get screwed though are ones that live in a state where no permitting is required, and then travel to a place like NY or NJ or CA.
Oh, that's fine if you don't constantly drive through all the lower 48 states. Not to mention ban states like NY will not even issue a non resident permit.

Again. You do not want the feds in control of CCW. That is all. CCW should be recognized juts like DL are. No special regs are needed.
What I want is to be able to carry in every state. Currently I cannot. With these proposed laws I could. Its not academic to me, its a practical matter. I gotta hang out in trucks stops and industrial areas with all sorts of depraved individuals about, as my other thread illustrates.

Could you explain to him that the feds wouldn't control anything. The states would still control their own licenses but they will have to accept every states licence just like a driver's license.
An FFL should know this so as not to give his customers the wrong information when they ask him at his shop.
I just wanna carry in all the other states like I can in PA. No more, no less. I don't really care how we get there, problems can be tweaked afterward.

Just pass a law stating that every other State must honor your permit just like they do drivers licenses.
Most state where a permit is not required do have them for people to use to get other State permits.

Possibly from the start. After a while, the politicians would want more and more control. They would fight, down the road for a National Permit Process. Not all States are equal and the push would be on to make one permit.

That would take a separate legislation rather than adding on to an existing reciprocity bill. I don't see that in the future just yet. Free states wouldn't allow it.

I agree with Will. National reciprocity means just that. If it EVER were to pass. Some anti gun states would find a way to regulate it. The same vice versa.
Maybe, but it would give me enough wiggle room to at least keep a gun, legally, in my truck even if not on my person.
