Need some help on my Build AR15 "Pistol"?

I have a DIY AR Kit coming and i plan to finish a Polymer 80 Lower for it.
Here is the kit i bought; Davidson Defense AR-15 10.5

I am hearing some back and forth with the 'laws' about this type of build... I would only be using it on my own property for shooting and home defense.

Its not a Rifle as its under the length and no butt stock, but also not a pistol due to weight and magazine well location.... These laws are all over the place and it seems everyone interprets them different. Any that can clarify it for me?

Need a fixed mag, and serial number engraved. Easier to do with a regular lower, save the 80% for a rifle build.

An ar-15 pistol is federally considered a pistol. Your options are to go fixed magazine or "bolt action" in NYS if you want to configure one as defined as an ar pistol. You must have a pistol permit and the lower must first be registered onto that permit so you can legally build a pistol, then it can be built. No permit no pistol.

Ok so fixed mag and registered, I actually had no idea they make a bolt action system for AR15's?

As has been said get it on your permit before you complete the lower. Must be fixed mag. No permit? Get a 16”barrel and build a rifle.

You are probably right. And may I add...

Another thing to keep in mind. You need the lower transferred to you as a pistol. If not you won't be able to get it on your permit.

Can't be a semi auto with a detachable mag even if it's on your permit.

The magazine well is in the wrong location and it'll be overweight.

there is no weight limit once you pin the mag.....10 rounds of course

THE DEFINISTION OF A PISTOL IS NOT WHAT YOU SAID.

A pistol can be any OAL. It can have a barrel that is any length. I can have a pistol and add a 16 inch barrel and it is still a pistol.
