Not possible with revolver, unless you leave an empty chamber under the hammer. Ah, forgive me...wheelguns are kind of passe around these parts aren't they? ;-)

Someone being negligent with their firearm has no bearing on me carrying with one in the chamber. I have nothing to base this on thank goodness but 1/3 of a second could seem like an eternity and result in less than desirable results if I was ever in the situation of needing to fire a shot. Nobody knows how they will react in that situation so any discussion about said situation is a mute point IMHO. Ultimately I am more concerned about what could result with not carrying a chambered round than carrying with a chambered round.:D

Seems to be an issue of reflexes and training. You train to not try to catch the gun. Damn law makers mandated they be drop proof, so let it drop. I'd be curious as to holster retention and proper holster fit. One in the pipe is an absolute; that's their whole function. (Suppose he had a revolver). Put things in perspective, how many people are actually injured/killed by this specific type of incident vs. how many people were killed/injured last year via misuse of cell phones. Lesson learned; Yes, end of the world NO. Is it possible to take corrective action for the future, Yes.

All these years of not dropping/catching a gun and last week i dropped (an unloaded) glock and tried to catch it! What a dumbass. I know better. It was a reflex.

I missed the catch....and it was unloaded. A simple win for me. Doh!!!

I think that was the 1st pistol i ever dropped!

33+ days climbing big walls an i never dropped anything.....i must be getting old.

as i have said before i hate that word ... negligent ... there is a line between it and Accident .. negligent i think is used way to much ..

you driving down the interstate and your tire blows out and you crash your car / truck .. or if your driving a tractor trailer and your steer tire blows and
you cream out 5 cars .. it was negligent .. .. no its a accident ..

im at the range trying a new holster and practicing getting used to it and i shoot my leg .. accident .. some times bad shit just happens ..

Heisenberg uncertainty principle. It proves that there is no such thing as zero tolerance. It doesn't exist. You basically can't be 100% sure of anything no matter how hard you try. Accidents... happen.

Every is a bit extreme, I'd stop at almost every.

Negligent implies less than due care. Due care is not 100%, more like 99.999%

There is always that one time the factory ammo will malfunction, or a bird will shit in your eye at the same time you're about to fire, and you end up putting the round over the berm, or something....

In the Army and the PD, every "mishap" is investigated to some degree and usually fault is determined.

Now negligence can be slight, like in the case of sun in a drivers eyes. Most of the cause would be the sun, but there's still some negligence to not slowing to a safer speed or using sunglasses/visor to mitigate the glare. See my point?

When it comes to guns, I really can't think of a true accident situation lacking any negligence at all.

I think we pretty well agree. I'm talking about the 0.01% of freak incidents that you can't expect someone to foresee.

You're firing a brand new gun from a reputable manufacturer with the proper ammunition and it blows up in your hands causing injury/death due to imperfections in the manufacturing. There are a bunch more I can think of but accidents do happen without negligence. I think a blown tire on the highway is also another good example.

Not necessarily even with the company. There are always lemons no matter what. Guns can be test fired x-rayed etc etc and leave the factory in working condition and later on malfunction because of an unforeseeable imperfection. This is just something that happens. Especially with metals. The company crossed their Ts and dotted their Is. They did everything possible to ensure that the gun left the factory in good working order. There's nothing else they could have done (short of being able to see the future) to quality check the gun. There is no negligence there.
