I'm beginning that process now...lol. We'll see how the rest of the build goes but I think I may have caught the AR-building bug. I've heard it's a tough one to get rid of.

Makes sense to me. It's always blown my mind watching people build these guns. I'll stick to my Garands and Enfields.

Oh yeah. I've only built one so far and I enjoyed it so much I already have 2 or 3 more in mind and I don't know what to do next. Maybe a .300 Blackout or maybe a full-feature precision bolt-action. And it's not to save money. I can buy a Ruger RPS for about half the cost of building one but the one I custom build for myself would be MINE.
I love my Garand and M1903 Springfield too. And my Mini-14. And a Henry Golden Boy has been near the top of my wish list for too long. But the AR-15 is simply the state-of-the-art of the modern rifle. If you build one, you might just come to appreciate that.
Great rifles aren't just made out of blued steel and checkered hardwood. Sometime they're made out of melted Pringles lids and recycled Schlitz cans.

I keep thinking I'd like to build one, even though I have extremely limited time and facilities.
There is something to be said for starting with a factory built and tested gun. My first came complete and I enjoyed changing it up. The rest I started from scratch and enjoyed finding every part I bolted on. In the beginning you don't know what you want, so you buy something complete that works. There is nothing wrong with that, it's not like you can't sell the existing parts.

I went full retard this weekend....just built one and already changing it to fill a niche I needed. Started to look at bolt guns for more precision shooting but didnt want to go .308 since I dont reload it and then said wtf I'll just make the new AR one. Well a new upper, stock, scope, mount, bipod later etc...
Nothing wrong with buying an ar. The guy making a great arguement to do your research and buy the ar you actually want, rather then the first one you see.
There aren't a whole heck of a lot of rifle configurations that can't be bought predone from the factory.

First AR I got in 2008 I paid way to much for (in retro, not knowing anything about'em). It is a Stag Arms left handed ejection rifle, 16in barrel w/ A4 rails and 3-9 x 40 scope. ~$1100
After changing the fore end and butt stock, I got a new upper receiver w/ no front sights just rails, also w/ installed muzzle brake/ commpensator . $515.00
Well since I had an extra butt stock and upper. I decided to buy another lower receiver - $210. So the second build cost approx $725
Now days there are a whole lot of AR makers out there. And a lower receiver is all about the same. It's the quality of the uppers that matter.
I've seen lower assemblies (receiver and stock) go for $239 (cheaper dirt) and upper assemblies @$300
