@MilesTeg I for one would welcome a thread like that if for nothing else than ideas. I have been drying / slowly working up a small coffee table out of a left over white oak stump swell and a round that will be the pedestal. I've thought about getting an Alaskan a bunch of times but I have no place good to dry linear lumber.

Of course (God forbid) if this guy comes down during my lifetime, I am going to refurnish the entire house. 200+ year old black oak. My tree guy actually has a picture of this on his desk at work. And it's why my wife made me buy this house.

No hijack on my end. That tree is a beast! We have one that's big but not that big. I shot countless squirrels out of it and one memorable deer. We have a huge poplar dad is trying to convince me to use (5' minimum diameter). I'm not convinced that's the wood I should use.

I dream about having a would working shop. Don't tell the wife but I might put a second story in the garage when i build it for this reason. If ever do do that i want one of those CNC wood cutters and do custom table tops or end tables. I want to make a gun friendly bed end table with a wireless charge built in. If I can afford the CNC then i will put the marine corps emblem imbeded in it.

I actually have been to the Sherman tree. It was truly amazing. The crazy part is that tree is pretty small compared to the ones that were there when we got there.
