New Concealed Carry Training requirements

ok...renew...recertify.....Have a carry and no restrictions (except NY $hitty).Live in WNY....With proposed edict taking affect 1 Sept 22....do I have to take the 16 hour course or just recert as I did last week ?

Well we will see on that. I think after the lawsuits die down they will expand it to all NYS.
Correct me if I am wrong but I thought the law states if you have your permit you only need to do it once upon renewal?

That is exactly what will happen. Details of the CCIA will be litigated, some aspects of concealed carry, mostly for upstaters, will trend back towards normal (pre-9/1/22) and then the state will 'provide guidance' to bring back the state-wide requirement for training.

My problem with a live-fire accuracy requirement is that by law you are not allowed to touch a handgun prior to the class. They are requiring people to demonstrate proficiency with something the first time they are using it.

Just like the people who are given unrestricted license before ever once firing a pistol. Makes perfect sense for NY

A fair number of states accept NY permits. For example, when I moved to NC, they accepted it. The problem lies with the assholes running NEW YORKISTAN! THEY will NOT accept ANY other states permits! Short of National Reciprocity ever being passed and signed into law, or SCOTUS somehow ruling on that issue, it will NEVER happen.

I remember when National Reciprocity was looking like it would pass and get signed into law (until that corrupt cock sucker Ryan stopped it cold), that the anti's were all screaming that the sky would fall if it passed. NYC was screaming about the possibility of all kinds of CCW holders from around the country coming to NYC, and WWIII breaking out!

That paranoid attitude is still the case today, - witness the CCIA bullshit.

Especially from 4 yards and the size of the damn target. I was seriously worried they would make you put 10 rounds in the 7-8 ring from 40 feet or something. Oh also for each pistol you own. I’m not happy about the training but the live fire requirements are a relief…. For now.

I think some states may actually understand the burden of the people and don't hold us responsible for the states complete disregard for the constitution. Other states I am sure like to prove a point and will not reciprocate because NY burdens their residents traveling to the PRNY.

Warren and Monroe counties are both saying that if you submit it before Sept 1st you’re ok. I submitted mine in Warren County on March 7th (still no BGC yet, frustrating!) and my brother is submitting his in Monroe County tomorrow (Aug 26th.)

That's what I was afraid of (not for me), but for many, many others!

A few coworkers actually asked if they could go to the range with me to practice.

LOL 4 yards at a 25 1/2" x 11" target...... with 4 our of 5 rounds being on target.

What happens if they all go through the same hole with no tearing? Will they then say that I only got 1 round on target? lol

It's all insane but the two things that really stand out to me are the written test and even crazier the part about live fire. How the hell can you pass that if you're not allowed to touch a gun until you get your permit? Not everyone grew up playing with guns/air rifles or are naturally good shooters. Also, imagine having to do even a quarter of this to vote.

I'm pretty sure the first time I rented a handgun in NJ, I was able to hit at least 4 of 5 at 4 yards....the live fire qualification is like the least offensive thing in the law compared to the drawn out amount of classroom time and sensitive/restrictive locations.

Don't forget this is also required training every 3 years for those with a license already.


I did the math with some guesstimating. I used Rocheater Defense website and their classroom offerings.

They have a 3 to 4 hour class called "NY Permit Legalities and Firearm Safety" we will just say 4 hours.. it cost $60.

Well we still need 12 more hours of class time. So stick with $60 for every 4 hours that's an additional $180, add that to the above $60 for the full 16 hours. Total is now $240

Next we have to have 2 hours of live fire. So let's say $30 (being generous) Now we are at $270. But how much shooting will be done, let's make up a number and say 50 rounds of ammo, so another what $20

That brings our total to $290 for the training requirements that must be done every 3 years

I could throw an axe and hit that target, I would just have to carry 5 axes, which either makes me a Viking or a pirate.

If this training requirement stands, New York will use it in the future to argue against reciprocity. New York will claim that other states do not have training standards that meet those in New York. Therefore, New York citizens would be put at risk by allowing "poorly trained" individuals to carry firearms.

The rebuttal should simply be: Drivers' Licenses.

This. Politicians win elections by pandering to the whims of as many as possible. The intent of this, or frankly any gun law in NYS for that matter, is, I believe, to leave it as intentionally vague as possible to allow "myths " of its implementation to project far greater impact than the laws as they are written. Basically, it isn't stupidly written, its intentionally vague to allow all to fear its existence through word of mouth interpretation. Not dumb, maniacal.

An Assemblyman on a radio interview indicated that with the new shit, Semi-Auto rifle "permission slips" were every 5 years and Pistol Permits were every 3 years. WTFK
