Hey everyone- anyone found or bought any new knives lately? I was thinking of getting a new SOG line knife but wanted feedback from others first. Let me know! Looking for something to add to my edc
Steel Will Scylla, listed as a 'top opener', drop point has become my new favorite EDC, - around a $50 price on the net. D2 steel, which is planer blade steel. The top opening feature also allows it to deploy instantly when pulling it from your pocket, you just catch the edge of your pocket while drawing it out, like you would an Emerson, or Spyderco with the 'wave' feature. Their are other designs, like the flattened disc on the blade spine that allow this instant pocket deployment. The high flat grind makes it an excellent slicer, and it comes razor sharp. Blue or black scales available, and the scales have a canvas, or linen texture to aid in a secure grip. Blades with a thumb stud opener on the side of the blade just never seemed to work as conveniently for me - I like this one much better. Well executed liner lock. Pictured bellow with a Spyderco 'wave' and an Emerson for comparison.
Or...you can cut a "wave" into almost any knife with a cut-off grinder..., Did it to my old saber Endura, and while I was unsure at first, I have grown to actually love this feature. Exits your pocket open, with no worries about finding a button or flipper. Steel Will makes a great product IMHO.
A small zip-tie attached at the hole on a Spyderco will accomplish the same thing. It's a neat function, but if you use it all the time - your going to wear out the edges of your pants pockets...just saying.
Tried the zip tie trick..worked for a while....had to worry about breaking them and them slipping, etc..it is a cool trick, just not for me. With the wave feature, just tilt the knife forward a bit and take it out still discretely folded. Wave only works when knife is bottomed out in your pocket corner. Thought for sure the wave would tear up my pockets, but after a about a year, pants are still %100.
