Can someone explain to me why a "Military" rifle costs $12000? Money going to a German Company. Are they at least being built here in the US?

When you buy in bulk your suppose to get things cheaper!

I belive that price is for the entire kit, rifle, scope, bipod, magazines plus whatever other ancillaries. Thats how sniper rifles are issued, as one big kit in a case with everything.

gonna catch hell for this 1 but why the hell do we need the Marines. let's see we have 2 army's the real 1 and then the Marines we have 3 air forces the real 1 the naval 1 and the marine 1. we pay for all this and it's incredable. at stewart air base there are 2 units 1 marine and 1 ang they don't share anything the marines have to have different food than the guard they have to have different uniforms they won't share hangers it's totally out of control and would somebody please tell me what the hell a marine air unit is doing so far from the fleet. and dosen't the airforce fly tankers that do the same thing. all for a strong military but lets please be smart about it. Most nation's have marines but they are small fast strike units that are sea borne we have a totally second army

You need Marines because the Navy sailors are too busy manning the ships and whatnot to go ashore and fight the enemy on the beasches and beyond. You need the Army because there are only a few thousand Marines and you need more boots on the ground than that. And you can't disperse hundreds of thousands of troops amongst the limited room aboard your naval warships, hence Marines.

i understand the MEU and the need for them but they are battalion or brigade strength at best. why whole divisions why massive armour units that do nothing but mimic Army units why there own air units way too much duplication just to say there Marines Navy pilots are as good if not better and so are the air force people we're talking billions and billions of tax payer dollars. I have no beef with the core at all but come on every time they change there cammo uniforms it costs 30 billion bucks why if there operating in shall we say afganistan can't the marines and army units use the same. why do they need different food than the army. and not to knock there fighting ability if a WW 2 marine unit had to face a German grenadier unit they would have had there ass's kicked and the greatest seaborne landing in the world include very little marine's. very expensive hoax in my opinion

Each branch is evolved and specialized at specific tasks they are the best at.

Its not the most efficient cost wise. But it's the best for our national defense .

Sure we could combine our branches but it would be a bureaucratic clusterfuck of epic scale and there would just be different types of waste and we would lose operational capability.


The F35 is the exact reason NOT to combine our forces. For procurement and standardization reasons we decided to let the air force, navy and marines share the development and purchase cost on a common plane. Its turned into a giant development and engineering cluster and the end product result is that it isn't as good at any one thing because it's had too many design compromises. If 3 (or perhaps 2) separate airplanes were developed for more specific operstional environments the results would have been better because there would have been fewer design compromises.
