Ive never been a victim of any crime, I have been falsely arrested, to me wasnt a big deal I was released went to court and dismissed . I would rather deal with defending myself against a criminal any day over an out of control government .

If we are allowed to defend ourselves we could save tax payers alot of time and money.

If you want a rapist off the street bring him to trial faster. This law may help with that. I still havent seen any hard facts about the law . Alot of opinions . From what I understand if rape is a violent crime the judge will still have bail discretion.

How would a rape victim be any safer if he had posted bail? Maybe electronic monitoring can be used along with a fob the victim would carry . Accused gets within x miles the police are notified.

Ive lived long enough to know that nothing is as bad as people make it out to be. A few years back the city was gonna fall into chaos due to police not stop and frisking people.

Well then apparently you have not read the important stuff that I and others have posted. We have posted copies of the law on a couple different threads.

On the issue of rape, prior to this law, the victims information could be and usually was kept somewhat secret, now, her name, address, phone number, etc are made public. Same with all crimes.

Bottom line is that the government scares most of us more than the criminals.

If a criminal attacks me, I can defend myself.

If the government does it, not so much.

If you want to see the endgame of these "relaxed rights of the accused" looks like, look at college campuses. Read about the horror stories there.

Better 100 guilty people go free than 1 innocent one is imprisoned.

Some of you seem to think it should be the other way around. I tend to think that seeing all the evil close up has jaded you.

I wonder what the penalty is if he fails to show up for his court date? does he get a bench warrant issued, and if get re-arrested, does he get released AGAIN

Well, there's always a first time for reporting on things. This happens to be one of those times for us. This is completely factual, by the way.
A Florida woman, 25-year-old Katie Lou Gottlich, has been charged with misdemeanor domestic battery after allegedly throwing a kitchen pot at her boyfriend's head on Wednesday. Her reasoning? He had been fishing too much and not doing enough around the house for their young child.
The victim called 911 and stated that he'd been out fishing for a few days and when he got home, the assault happened. Pasco County officers say that Gottlich chucked the large pan at the man's head in the backyard while he wasn't looking. She allegedly fled the house after the incident occured, but the officers did find the pot in the backyard. They did not, however, see any immediate sign of injury on the man.

of course I can only read what the reporter wrote but the story (about the event itself) sounds a bit off to me? Of course barring a witness it’s he said she...never mind

Replace the gun with a car that accidentally hit and killed someone. No witnesses were around to see it happen. The same or different?

In the above story we only have one side, it is what it is but I can’t help but wonder what he was doing that compelled her to grab the gun? Of course I am assuming the story was written accurately which may be assuming a lot

Khan was previously arrested by the NYPD on charges of assault and criminal possession of a weapon in November. The same day he was arrested, ERO deportation officers lodged a detainer with the NYPD, but the detainer was not honored, and Khan was released following his arraignment.

Prosecutors say he gave conflicting accounts of what happened to detectives once he was taken into custody, at one point bizarrely claiming he fell down, his belt buckle broke and “his pants fell down and his penis fell near her vagina but he did not have intercourse with her,” according to the criminal complaint against him.

Khan later told officials he did lift her skirt up and tried to put his penis inside of her and “did not know what came over him,” according to the complaint.

So he was arrested in November of assault and CPW, but was out on the streets. Maybe not related to bail reform, but here NYC gives its citizens the trifecta: it seems he already had serious charges pending but was right back on the street afterwards, he was an illegal alien, and NYPD didn't hold him on detainer for ICE because NYC is a sanctuary city.

I remember reading somewhere that some cop shops were releasing people even before the "bail reform" went into effect statewide in anticipation of it, and sheriffs were releasing inmates from county lockups who were being held on bail before it went into effect.

A 92 year old woman raped and murdered because of politicians and their pandering to illegals and violent criminals for votes.

By hook or by crook, NYers should make sure they can protect themselves.
