New Yorkistan crap has infected Bass Pro / Cabela’s in Free America

It’s because under nys law any business that is located out of state but ships products to residents in nys is considered as doing business in nys and thus subject to nys laws. It’s how nys goes after business in other states who don’t have a physical presence here. That’s why so many businesses are scared of nys.

Their gun department in NYS is a joke. You have to sign in at the one by me with name address and phone number to wait to speak to one of the first class morons that work there. They are absolutely clueless and know nothing of guns. Add in all guns must have a trigger lock on them and can’t be removed, and the ammo is now locked up in a back room it’s insane. It’s a joke. I buy fishing gear and shoes from them and that’s about it. It’s sad because all the national firms will stop selling guns because of crap like this and people like us not buying them but I just can’t. I can’t buy a gun from them.

Anytime I buy manufactured, which is exceedingly rare now a days, I need to open the box and inspect what is inside. Mainly due to the respect that most if not all ammo sales are FINAL.

First to make sure it's what I am buying in the box, and secondly to make sure the ammo physically looks acceptable to use.

I have come across rare situations where I'm cheated out of ammo or the ammo looks like it was drowning in humidity and I had to reject it. I much prefer handling my own ammo so mix ups and other problems done arise too.

There is a LGS that isn't too far from me that still keeps their ammo so the customers can pick it up, inspect it, and turn around and do the BGC and pay for it. I asked if he cares if he gets in trouble, and he said, NO!". That is the only place where I'll buy ammo from in NYS.

I used to really like Cabelas and to a lesser extent, Bass Pro Shop, but between their policies and quality they are rapidly becoming a cross between Dick's and K-Mart. I've been to both brick and mortar stores in the past month and was amazingly underwhelmed with each.

I just can't buy from the Big Chain/Box Stores as I'm used to wholesale level pricing...I carried a BP/Cabella's Gift card for almost a year before actually using it to buy some Socks and a Shirt off the Clearance Rack, and only then because the Hotel we stayed was across the Parking lot from there...I'll stop at the BP in Utica on the way through so I can Pee, otherwise that's about it.

I occasionally get the strange look from places buying diesel fuel additives like PowerService or HotShots EDT. I tell them, what you, think I'm going to snort it or drink it to get a high off it? I tell'em, there's better stuff in this store to do that.

Those stores are overpriced to a laughable degree. Either get from your LGS to support them or order online where you get the best price. I do both., I order magazines in larger quantities online and piecemeal from my LGS.

Sometimes, my parents would send me to the store to get them a couple packs of cigarettes.
I'd get their packs of smokes from the store clerk with no questions asked, and with what money was left over, I'd usually get myself a milkshake.

I miss the country that I grew up in. When freedom and common sense were actually a thing.

Not only that, I'm 61 years old. What's the problem? I'm obviously not 4 year old with a long grey beard.

For those that remember OTB (Off Track Betting), my dad would frequent that place, and they'd have the cigarette vending machine at the front by the door. I remember my dad handing me money to feed to machine to get him a fresh pack of cigs.

I also remember days during the important races, the place would so packed and filled with people smoking, that you could barely see the TV sets. I still remember this one dude smoking a cigarette and a cigar at the same time during the race when the horses were neck to neck and waiting for the photo finish to pop up to see if he got his payout. Lucky SOB won good that day too.

I still remember when I won $10 that I bet on a horse. Dad was proud of me.
