Marijuana is neither addictive, nor a narcotic.

It required a constitutional ammendment to outlaw alcohol, because they rightly recognized at that time that the constitution did not give the federal government the authority to regulate drugs.

They still don't have the authority to, but unfortunately they do have the power to illegally regulate it.

So, yes, at a federal level, the DEA should not exist, and the FDA should be advisory only.

The federal government does not have the authority to control a substance.

The constitution simply does not grant it to them. They have invented that power from whole cloth.

Regardless of the merits of the idea, they simply cannot be allowed to continue to invent new powers for themselves.

There is no justification, or authority for pot to be illegal at all.

You cannot do an end run around the constitution by placing a tax on something and then not allowing people to pay the tax.

Technically at the federal level pot is regulated the same way machineguns are. There is no law against possessing them. There is merely a tax you are not allowed to pay. So the "crime" is tax evasion. I do not think tax evasion should be grounds for alienating someone's 2A rights.

Last I had heard, marijuana was not a physically addictive drug. But I'm not stating that as a fact.

My understanding is it's more mentally addictive. Similar to gambling. Addicted gamblers don't have a physiological addiction (ie. Shakes, etc.) if they don't gamble, but they get that mental fix from doing it. At least that's my understanding anyways.

I've heard many a person say quitting smoking tobacco was one of the most difficult things they've ever done. I've never heard someone who quit smoking weed say the same, and I've met many, including many servicemembers who dropped it on a dime to join up.

I've heard many a person say quitting smoking tobacco was one of the most difficult things they've ever done. I've never heard someone who quit smoking weed say the same, and I've met many, including many servicemembers who dropped it on a dime to join up.

I have had family members who smoked tobacco regularly and yet was able to quit at the drop of a hat. I have personally seen coworkers and friends get addicted to smoking weed to the point they lose relationships, jobs, homes all because they could not stop smoking weed. All they wanted to do every day was sit on a couch and get high 24-7.

I know people who are like that with certain video games.

Some people are prone to addiction. If you deny them one route they will simply find another.

It is a major problem with bariatric (weight loss) surgery. Many of of the people who have it are addicted to eating, and when the surgery makes them unable to do so, they will transfer the addiction.

That is why they advise people who have it to avoid alcohol for 2 years. Has nothing to do with the surgery, it's that a ton of the recipients would develop alcoholism.

Addiction is a personal fault. It is not something that society can fix for you, nor should it try.

To be fair, he is correct. All the drugs should be legal, and anything else is completely arbitrary.

If you are going to pick and choose which recreational drugs are legal based on some arbitrary notion of "harm to society", then alcohol tops the list to ban.
