Astorino lost by 500K votes. Could Nixon pull that many from Monkeyface? Maybe, especially if any more scandals break in the interim. Molinaro would need an unprecedented turnout, something upstate hasn't been able to deliver in a long time.

I really think we all need to make it a point to get the Republican voters out there to vote. With a split Dem party there actually is a good shot at this.

I work in Ithaca, Ithaca 100% thinks it is NYC but more more more liberal. And yet every inch around Ithaca is as red as you can be

I really think we all need to make it a point to get the Republican voters out there to vote. With a split Dem party there actually is a good shot at this.

In 2014, Zephyr Teachout prevailed in about half of the counties and pulled almost 1/3 of the raw vote in the gubernatorial primary. Her campaign was ill-funded and she had little recognition. In the end, Cuomo ended up on the WFP line and pulled about 126k votes.

Cynthia Nixon has already put a hurting on Cuomo. Personally, she is worth over $60 million. She currently has the backing of Di Blasio. She has significant name recognition. And she has come out swinging at Cuomo pretty hard. If she keeps up her momentum, she will probably pull those 125k WFP votes. With her stances on marijuana, LGBT, and women's issues, she could pull another 100k from the lines that Cuomo held in 2014 (Independence and Womens Equality parties).

Is it possible that she then pulls 250k from the core Dem voters? I'd say it's entirely likely.

Mathematically, there's a solid chance.

The BIG problem, however, is that the GOP is running a candidate that pretty much nobody is excited about. Hell, I suspect 2/3 of New York has never heard of Molinaro.
