I like this method better:
Seems like a piece of cake.
Seems like a piece of cake.
I used a chamber maid and scrubbed and scrubbed, then I put a mop on a flexible cable rod attached to a cordless drill and slowly buffed the chamber. I alternated between the two a few times. That chamber is like a mirror, belive me!I am not familiar with these guns but before I spent any money I would wrap a piece of scotchbrite around a dowel and scrub the chamber, lengthwise, clean it real good and have another go at it.

Nothing seemed out of the ordinary when last I checked. Its been years since I did anything beyond squirting oil in it though.
Nah, chamber looks mirror smooth from what I remember. Its got the new Criterion barrel CMP puts on the specials and its only had Greek HXP surplus through it. I belive that is non corrosive stuff. Could the extractor simply be out of spec? Do M1 parts have total interchangeability? Or is the Garand like the Lee Enfield in that some of the parts need to be hand fitted?
When it ran this rifle was an amazing shooter.
Well I have ordered the refurbished kit so we will see. I really hope this takes care of the problem, it is far too fine a rifle to not shoot. And I'd like to shoot it it in the May Irons Match for extra cool points. Plus it is a damn fine shooter! Then it most be the extractor and or extractor spring.

Get to it it's waiting for youThe bolt refurb kit arrived earlier today apparently.
So, its been confirmed. I am the biggest dumbass in the universe. I take the Garand to the range and setup at the 25 yard line to just get a rough zero dialed in. Load up a clip, line up on the target, saftey off, breath control, trigger squeeze and.............click. I knew in an instant what I had done. I forgot to put the firing pin back in! What a maroon! And I wasn't gonna drive the 56 miles back home to fix it either, so no Garand shooting today. Sigh. If my truck isn't going to be out of the shop on monday maybe I'll go back tomorrow.
