OFT is the most reasonably-priced training around. They offer great value in firearms training.Talk to RSO and take some classes. Best thing you can do is get in a regular training schedule if you can afford to. I also recommend you try out a class with Ben ( Onsight Firearms Training ). Welcome to the forum!

Good Luck. Safety first. Avoid the "Operator courses" that teach you tactical cool moves , worry about learning how to safely handle a firearm
Yeap, agreed, as a concealed carrier, or someone with a firearm for home defense, you will NEVER have to learn how to draw your pistol from concealment, engage multiple targets, change mags, decision making, decision making under stress, shooting form various positions, clear malfunctions, shoot and move, move and shoot, (god forbid shoot while moving!!) or communicate with another person. Absolutely will never need to learn how to avoid or de-escalate a situation, or avoid a "non-shoot scenario". Just putting slow fire rounds into a NRA bullseye at 5 yards from a stationary bench should do you just fine.
Surely your not suggesting this fellow, with his first hand gun ,on his way to his first range visit with his new Glock 17 with no holster , by-pass fundamental safe gun handling and range edict training and jump in to more advanced training? That does not seem like correct advice for a brand new shooter. its thinking that just because some one attended the minimum required class with no hands on training to meet the county requirements is ready for running and gunning. Not sure if you're having a bad day and looking for some one to share your bad day with but now is his time to be safely trained and once he has master handling and shooting his gun safely then he should move the the next level. I am not looking to bicker with one of my fellow members no less a Supporting vendor who helps to pay the bills around her ,but I still say I gave rock solid information to a brand new shooter , Now after he has some time on the range and has put a couple of thousand rounds down range, I will be suggesting he joins me at a completion to hone and increase his skills and I am not talking about NRA static bulls eye shooting.

this is the tactical COOL training to avoid.
learn the high heel reload ..
There is range safety and then there is wacky shit. That's wacky shit.Excuse me?
Lmao!
Been there dozens of times, I'm not taking my sidearm off for anyone!
Concealed is concealed!
Have a nice day!

That's up there with "remove your CCW before entering this NRA sponsored gun show."
Fuck outta here.
I'm firm in the belief you can take firearm safety too far.EXACTLY. Ive been to gun shows in NY and VA where they say, oh you'll need to take your gun out and clear it, so we can zip tie it....
In my head Im thinking.... "Da fuck? RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW"
Out of my mouth was: "yeah I dont have a gun on me".

"You can't pull that trigger to take down that glock, you treat every gun like it's always loaded!"
"Wat?"
Ziptie deeze nuts.
id prefer to do blue mountain, but they are closed till march i believe..what range in Westchester? is it one of the "blues" ? Blue Mtn or Blueline Tactical?
if you go to Blue Mtn, talk to Walt at the pistol range. Tell him you are new and he will be happy to show you the basics. Make sure you ahve a chamber flag as they require it now. I think you can still buy them at the front desk.
100% agree on getting some training to better learn how to control your weapon!
Edit - sorry for the dup on talking to Walt! Must be good advice if more than one person is telling you that!
Go across the river to RISE. Waaaaay better people working there than blueline. Id rather pay the toll than deal with the people at blueline.id prefer to do blue mountain, but they are closed till march i believe..
ive heard a lot of mix reviews about blueline(the bad ones are really bad, and the good ones are just ok ), but they are super close to me, so ill probably wind up going there once or twice.
i am a noob, but im not completely clueless. id like to think im one step above the full noobs
will be looking into taking a class or 2 soon for sure

never tried that place. Is it crowded? I generally don't like indoor ranges, but i forgot that Blue Mtn closes for a few months.
yeah but i cant usually get there on a weekend, so realistically for me its March. Any other outdoor ranges that stay open?
learn the high heel reload ..
Don't forget the "tactical bib" she "designed for women to not get brass down their sports bra when at the range... or forget she said she spent around $43,000 developing
This is probably the best one. You dont want those things getting burnt by hot brass do you???
Idk depending on how supported they are, when they do the hot brass dance
