Is Santorum Right? Did High Gas Prices Trigger the Great Recession?
Rick Santorum is getting much grief for this: Rick Santorum told an audience Monday that the 2008 recession was caused by high gas prices. He said Americans were unable to pay their mortgages—not because of unsustainable housing prices or reckless lending practices—but because of $4-per-gallon...www.aei.org
It's a huge factor in recessions at the very least.
$4.865/gallon is current rochester gas price.
The shills on his payroll.Whodafuq are da 20%?
Wow that’s serious money. I’m sure we are there or more on groceries, but not there on gas because we don’t drive much. The shills on his payroll.
Id like to, once again, thank all you fucking morons that voted for Xiden.
Gas is costing me almost 500 more per month, groceries are about 400 a month more, not to mention everything else.
Yeah it is, i commute about 100 miles per day into the city, my truck averages about 12mpg. Thats only going to and from work, then there is driving kids to sports, errands, etc... I need a truck so a car wont work for me, and even if i wanted a truck with better mpg its not affordable right now.Wow that’s serious money. Need to get rid of the sports. I just got into it with my wife about it. Non-essential horseshit! Huge waste of money for the "Yeah" factor. My daughter has a soccer tournament in Boston this coming weekend.. Right on Memorial weekend! Fuck no! My son had another tournament last weekend. 2 weekends wasted running kids around when so much work to do around the house and cost of gas through the roof. She doesn't get it! Still living in a Pre-Covid world.Yeah it is, i commute about 100 miles per day into the city, my truck averages about 12mpg. I don’t care if you need a truck or want a truck the price shouldn’t be what it is and you should be able to have the vehicle you want if you work hard and pay for it. Was making an on-line Walmart order yesterday - the "closest" Walmart store is 100 mile round-trip, that's why we buy online a lot.
Was looking at the price increases and things that have gone "Out of Stock" for a while - in the latter group is Folger's Classic Roast, our go-to coffee. Haven't seen it in the 3 lb canister for close to a month.
Saw this coming and have 30 lbs stored and, no, you can't have any.
Regardless, decided to check the oil I use in our car - Valvoline Full Synthetic High Mileage 5W-30 - has gone WAY up!!
Paid $22.47 for the 5 qt size on 02 JAN 22 and just bought another on 20 MAY 22 for $29.47.
That's a 31% increase in a little over 4 months - get it while you can because, regardless of "panic buying", all prices are going up, and availability is tanking.
Just another feature of living in "Clusterfuck Nation", which is a hybrid of "Clown World" and "Retard Nation".

I hear ya. Thing is at least at my kids school they won't even consider a kid on the school team unless they have been doing travel sports. It's all political.I get it. It's a tough call. I see both sides of it.
I want my kids to have as normal of a life as possible. I want them to be kids. I want them to have those experiences.
But at the same time things are rapidly Changing and IMO the sooner people accept it and come to terms and adapt they will position themselves ahead of others.
Maybe there is some common ground compromise. Kick travel soccer to the curb (dad joke) and instead play house or for the school team. Way cheaper, way less time, way less of a burden. But the kids still get to be on a team and compete and play and have fun.
(And yes, I have a daughter who plays travel soccer so I feel ya. I've been carting her back and forth to sahlens indoor soccer all winter and now it's getting into thre outdoor season and games. I think this will be her last year doing it) I think she can make the school team next year.
Just my .02

Kids sports is a valuable part of society.
Why we let it become part of the school's I don't know.
You can’t live life like that. If your kids want to have fun well then you need to do that. This is all part of the liberal plan.I hear ya. Thing is at least at my kids school they won't even consider a kid on the school team unless they have been doing travel sports. It's all political.
why so much?I put $283.16 worth of gas in my work car last week (Mon. - Fri.). It's a Chevy Cruze!
Many folks don't get it. How much tension in marriages across the country because of the Biden economy ?. Never mentioned is it... $$$ just is not there to spend a few nights eating out, .. Carting kids 200 miles for a game .. Perhaps even flying down to Florida for a few days. ... This is going to end badly for many marriages. When I have traveled in China you saw hundreds of folks walking along the road ... Miles from any towns ... This is a lifestyle we may have to endure.Need to get rid of the sports. With this economy I guess they will entertain themselves with a ball and a stick if things keep going in this direction. Sorry to say that First world living is about to end for many.just got home from dinner at friends and we all took a trip to Geneseo and friend and his wife were just talking about the price of gas and
they were like there goes all the plans this year .. looks like were just going to stay home and be bored .. no trips , no going camping . no movies .. ect ..
Have to wonder when the economy is really going to feel this. Right now people are still going out, shopping and traveling somewhat normally. At some point people are going to have to stop spending anything extra and cutting back on the necessities if things keep going the way they are. People will go to and from work, buy groceries and try to pay bills and that will be it. We have been cutting back little by little and we didn’t do much to begin with. This is a house of cards in a stiff breeze.just got home from dinner at friends and we all took a trip to Geneseo and friend and his wife were just talking about the price of gas and

I've already been hearing it. It will come. Folks are complaining, but wait till they throw in the towel and quit doing things.Have to wonder when the economy is really going to feel this.
