I assembled a 10/22 with the full Magpul stock and it was a really nice handling rifle, for a boringly accurate and reliable 22. The grip angle and cheek rest are great. It is not lightweight at all. The rifle I used was a pink anniversary model on sale for $180 (because it was pink) that had a Hogue stock that was also quite nice and light (just the color....)

I ended up selling all my 22s, I have nice air guns for household use (legally) and the price of 223 is only double 22 nowadays and I like shooting something with some power behind it.

.223/5.56 is a lot more than double the price of .22LR. In most brick and mortar stores I have been in bulk 5.56 is running around .40 a round, give or take and exluding the rip off "deals". Bulk .22LR seem to be universally .10 a round. Nonetheless that is a narrow enough gap that I agree with your ending statement.
I also like your 10/22.

Yeah I was exaggerating. I find $0.30/223 Brass 55g online by 1000 versus $0.8-$0.10/CCI 22lr.

So far for 22s I've owned a couple of Marlin 60s, vintage Remys, couple old Anschutzes, and the 10/22 above. Put work into triggers, modifying stocks, etc. Honestly I enjoy working on them more than shooting.... They all shoot great but it gets boring. Too perfect?

I think 22s work best when you have the freedom to plink at cans and bottles and gelatin boxes and such. No recoil, no blast so you can just stay on a target and pepper it, that is the fun of a 22. Shoot a can, get it rolling, try to nail it as many times on the roll as you can. Hit low on an empty soda can and try to bark it up in the air, try to tag it in the air. Backstop permitting of course. Thats the kind of shooting I like best and nothing is quite as good at rapid plinking as a good ole 22!
