I don’t see modification devices like this, clearly created to skirt the law, as something we should risk defending. I want the guns to stay legal. The add-on toys that Call of Duty wanna-be’s buy are not part of the 2nd Amendment in my opinion. They’re pointless and the optics are horrible. Absolutism still requires a modicum of thought or else eventually we may see absolutism of a different type...

That's not even true about 94. They supported the AWB with a give up X to keep Y mindset, until public outrage took over, then they reversed.

Agreed. This is not the proverbial "hill to die on."

I don't want to give another inch. But, like it or not, automatic firearms are already heavily restricted or outright banned (in areas). I live among the Leftist Liberal Progressives here downstate. They cannot tell the difference between full auto and a semi-auto that is bump-fired (with a specific stock or from a belt loop). Therefore, trying to defend "bump fire stocks" after they were specifically used in a horrific act of violence is difficult and creates very poor optics.

I've tried explaining the differences between automatic firearms and semiauto firearms that are bump fired to some Liberals. They are simply emotional and all reply: If it fires as fast as automatic it IS functionally automatic. They don't give a darn about the mechanical aspect. They don't care that bump-firing is inherently inaccurate.

That said, I'd prefer to get something in a compromise for allowing these stocks to be banned. I'd like to see a hands-off agreement on magazine-fed rifles. I'd like legislation normalizing carry permits across state lines. Heck, I'd settle for normalization of pistol licensing between counties in New York (as long as my county, Westchester, is not used as the model).

Like it or not, we are being forced to play politics with our rights. It is a bad position. I have lines that I will not cross with regards to regulations. I will not, however, go to the mattresses to defend bump-fire stocks.

BTW - I hate this whole damn legislative "need" being forced upon us. My opening stand will always be "no further restrictions." But, compromises may need to be struck.

We need a Federal definition of a legal rifle so the states like NY and CA can't make up their own. They can put in a ban on bump-stocks in there, but protect pistol grip and other features.

now,here's the problem, those people who have them already, what happens? like 300 bucks or more for one of those things. Grandfather, or loose it?
2nd problem, giving up this because it fires faster, what else will be attached and will there be a problem with a quick reset trigger or God knows what else will fall into an accessory ban. I find it dumb, I have seen people with them at ranges,they don't usually work that well, I guess you have to practice to get it to work well. this was 1 man, 1 time. there are millions of guns. Talking about once...I'm surprised the nRa would fold that quick. But if it keeps the anti's happy for a day, I guess .

I have said it before and will stick to it The NRA is the main reason we have an 2nd amendment battle. They folded years ago. Sold us out and I will never support them for that reason. Do your research there just like many other Gun supporting groups.
