The Democrat-controlled state Assembly on Monday approved legislation providing increased safeguards to undocumented immigrants facing possible deportation.

Dubbed the New York State Liberty Act, the legislation would make New York a “sanctuary” state by prohibiting the detention of undocumented individuals on immigration detainers unless there was a warrant from a judge.

It would also, among other things, prevent state and local law enforcement agencies from stopping or questioning a person based on perceived immigration status.

“First and foremost, if you are living in New York, you are a New Yorker, your immigration status is of no consequence,” said Assemblyman Francisco Moya (D-Queens).

I have a question for the legal guru's of the site. I also want to preface my question with I believe this sort of legislation is illegal. But for my question and argument sakes let's say it is legal.

What would stop individual counties deeming themselves sanctuary counties from the safe act? Also what is stopping this from going down to smaller municipalities? Where living in very strange times.

I doubt it will pass the State Senate. The Assembly is so Democrat loaded. The Senate actually leans Republican (even if most are RINOs).

The fact that it even made it to the floor without bipartisan repudiation is a disgrace.

I agree. I have said this before. This should include ALL Federal monies spent in the state. Including, but not limited to: rents for federal offices, and buildings, EDUCATION, medical support, social programs, law enforcement and emergency funding.

While this may seem extreme, and I realize "the children" will suffer in the schools, that is the only way this shit gets fixed. Ya' see, the morons who are keeping these idiots in office NEVER, EVER have to take a bite of a shit sangwich! When it starts affecting them, they will get the hint that these idiots running the state are fucked up. I am a HUGE proponent of if you break the rules (law) there have to be consequences, and NYS is breaking the law. It's how we raised our Son's, and I'm sure you guys/gals have done it the same way.

These freakin' snowflakes have probably never had any consequences other than a "time out", which doesn't do shit in the long run. What's gonna happen as they grow up, be put in a time out on their job for fucking up?
