NY carry permit holders that have Pa permits?

just wondering if most members here with unrestricted carry permits also have the Pa. permit?..
In my area, [southern tier], most everyone does , but perhaps some folks that live further away from pa have not done it.. Its certainly worth it if not.. I think it was about $20-30 ,something like that, and my wife and I were both out of the Sheriffs office in Scranton with our permits in 1/2 hour.. With a NY only permit we are reciprocal with 23 states, and with the Pa permit, its 31,, We travel into Pa enough that we felt it would be a good, idea, but it was so quick and easy, that I feel its worth the drive for CC permit holders from further away as well... You must have an unrestricted permit, and I know thats a big problem for some living in areas of NY that are infested with gun grabbing socialist local administrations... bob

I got mine in Erie. It took me longer to find a parking spot, than to get the permit. The people actually doing the Pa permit process could not have been nicer.

I don't but have been thinking about it for some time. Last I checked though Pike County, PA (closest to me) doesn't do out of state permits (If I remember correctly they said they were inundated with NYers who wanted permits and it took all of their time). Scranton isn't out of the question if I have to drive there though.

Right now it's just NY and Utah permits for me.

I had a PA permit that I got in McKean County, - south of Olean. 20 minutes in and out; $20. Easy as pie, and no hassles. Only thing needed was it to be a full Unrestricted version.

However, I have let it expire only because I haven't made it to PA when any of the County Sheriff's offices have been open, and you have to apply in person.

But I also went ahead and got my FL CCW, and actually, that gives me more than PA, - something like 38 states overall. Basically the same as with an NC permit. PA helps, but it does not give you WA, NV, NM, CO, NE, SC, FL, DE, NH, and ME, while FL does. With my NC and FL permits, and my NY permit still, that gives me 39, per USAcarry.com, or handgunlaw.us.

The new Commissioner in FL is very anti 2A, and is reportedly screwing with people, but I haven't had an issue so far. One thing about FL, when I applied, they offered expedited processing if you were a veteran, which was worthwhile. I had my permit in under 45 days.

What we really need is National Reciprocity, and if not for that traitorous prick, Speaker Paul Ryan, who bottled it up for the first 2 years of Trump's presidency, while he himself hides in WI behind a wall around HIS estate, we would have had it!

That was a hot thread topic at one point. As I recall, most of the counties bordering NY insisted on your NY CCW being Unrestricted, while some located further south in PA were OK with restricted permits.

The thing to do is to call the specific Sheriff's office and ask beforehand. They'll tell you in 2 seconds.

Interesting.. I was always under the impression it had to be an unrestricted permit.. That being said, I went to Scranton, and perhaps that was my reference point.. If I gave misleading information my apologies.. Certainly worth doing a bit of research and taking a bit longer drive to get an unrestricted pa. permit... bob

Go to Scranton. Don't put too many quarters in the parking meters across the street. You'll be in and done and out before you use them up.

The first Pennsylvania permit I received was issued out of Warren, back in 1996. I've been going to McKean to renew it every five years since then. Everyone I have ever dealt with has been wonderful. They always send me a renewal reminder in the mail a couple months before it expires, too.

Last time we went down for renewals, ( I always go with a friend of mine - Yes, I actually DO have a friend. ) we brought them a pizza. Very well received by the handful of people in the office.

I do believe that an unrestricted N.Y.permit is necessary, but I also believe that may vary from county to county. Very much like N.Y., the issueing authority is the county , so things may be different from one to another.

Although my next renewal isn't due until January 2021, we may find ourselves doing it in August so that we can make it a motorcycle day trip. Last renewal trip was a friggin blizzard, and not too much fun.

Are you sure with NY and PA you get gun rights in 31 states? That seems wrong to me.
I have both NY and PA. I don’t go to many other places so never really looked into it too much. I love in Buffalo area and I went to Erie PA it was $20. I applied on a Monday and received it Friday of the same week.

Chemung County NY and Bradford County PA have a reciprocal agreement. Not sure how that works.

I'm next to Chemung in Steuben. Not sure if I'll go to Bradford or Tioga. I think Tioga PA borders Steuben. I'm more familiar with Bradford.

Took a day and drove out to Erie. Bought a bunch of ammo and ate at both Chick-Fil-A and Steak N Shake.

Parking on the street can suck. Both City and County government have offices in that immediate area, and Gannon University is right there. There's a parking garage two blocks south on Peach Street.

I was in and out in 20 minutes, only because there were two people in line ahead of me. The kid immediately in front of me had a whole bunch of questions for the Deputy. When it was my turn, the Deputy saw I was from New York and said "You probably know the laws better than I do. Why didn't you say something?" Eh. Not my place.

Overall, it was a good experience. Too bad New York can't be like that.

It really sucks not knowing if you go from being a law abiding upstanding citizen to a wanted felon thats headed to prison just becaused you crossed the wrong state line where your carry weapon is NOT wanted... bob

Be careful. Many of those states only honor PA resident permits. A couple of years ago, the Pennsylvania AG revised their reciprocity agreements to reflect such.
