What do they need the DL# for? To make sure the ID is real? That would then mean every store with a Point Of Sale cash register would be linked to DMV. I've had a lot of instances where the clerk simply scans the bar code on the back of the ID and while it gives me an uneasy feeling when they do, I have to assume it's simply to verify that the info on the front of the card is concurrent meaning the ID is legit and not to compile information.

It's a slippery slope! And showing ID, and recording the ID, are two "crazy" different things.

I don't like being asked when my gray hair makes things obvious, and I have left beer at the register of businesses which seek to embellish what the law requires by establishing a ridiculous "policy"... She goes for ammo, or any other corporate policy that expects the customer to jump through hoops to satisfy ridiculousness!

Agreed. I abhor the policy, but you have every right to not shop there. Fastrac scans it. No scan, no sale. Even if you are 100.

the POS can and can not be tied to a state database .. i used to write code with POS scanners .. if you know the bar code specs all u need is the code to processes the info .. then it would be more coding to ring up the states DB to confirm ..

i had POS junk from where i work 10 yrs ago and hooked it to my pc and wrote some code to read bar codes ... its not rocket science

People have the medicinal cards. They still own firearms. It would take the ATF during the 4473 being processed to cross reference the medicinal database. But afaik, it’s still illegal on a federal level.

If the time comes when they can cross reference that database to see if you do have that card, there is going to be a lot of unhappy people getting a knock at their door.....until they light up of course.

There is absolutely zero reason for them to require my DL#, legal or any other, zero. I do shop some where else. So when you buy your depends and they ask for you SSN, I'm sure you pony up immediately. Like Darth, you must obey, you must obey.

It is different. The examples you cite are illegal. Id for age restricted sales is not illegal, quite the opposite.
