NY Legal AR Pistol

Looking at getting or building a AR pistol. What are the NY legal way of doing so ?? The mag has to be fixed ?

Is it as simple as picking up a fresh lower and adding it to my pistol permit or do I need to do something else ? Does NY frown upon the ar pistols if I try and add it ??

easiest to have an ffl give you a receipt for the pistol to put it on your permit. do not talk about ar pistols while you are actually adding the pistol.

we sell AR pistols. we will not sell you only a lower designated as a pistol. sorry too much potential issues. it leaves my store in accordance with the safe act. CYA sorta thing.

Not sure how an AR pistol would be legal under the safe act. In order to not be labels an AW, the mag has to insert into grip, and can't have any forward "shroud", if it does it's an AW, you can no longer register AWs.

What I fail to understand is why ask questions and then contradict answers you are given? Do some research...

Pistols of "Rifle Calibers", can be configured properly to be legal in NY, it's largely up to the issuing authority. Also, if you're gonna name your local GS and what they say is or isn't ok, don't pussy it, out them straight up, name them! I for one don't do business with assholes and it's good to know who they are! It's different if they tell you they just don't do it because they don't know how, or don't want the risk of repercussions, but saying you can't is BS.

I asked the question because I saw someone selling one on this forum..... That is also my understanding as not only the mag doesn't go in the pistol grip but it can't weight over 50ozs also. That pretty much rules out anything except some freak gun. Just trying to figure out if I'm missing something. Forgot though you can't ask a community for help.

Bullet Guy actually owns a gun store so there must be some way around it. But like I said if its to make it 50oz or less and not have a muzzle device, locked mag, and like no hand guards to keep the weight down pretty much defeats the point of getting it. Was looking for something I could put on my pistol permit, put in my backpack... Legally conceal it as I am CCW and go hiking with. Not at the expense of basically making it a Freak pistol that shoots 556 or 300 black out.

The Gun store was GUNS INC incase your looking for something. Same guy that owns about 7 in NY and 1 in VT.

To be an assault weapon and therefore illegal in NY state, the pistol must be:
1. Semiautomatic
2. Manufactured after September 14, 1994
3. Has two or more of the following:

• A magazine that attaches outside of the pistol grip
• A threaded barrel capable of accepting a barrel extender, flash suppressor, forward handgrip, or silencer
• A barrel shroud
• A weight of more than 50 ounces

Not looking for something like this or some single shot pistol.

I asked about the GS, and yes, why you would ask how to do it, and then say it isn't lawful is a bit moronic in my opinion. If you ask how to do it you don't know, that's OK, then you post like you know. Make up your mind. By the way, maybe if you had a half brain and used Google, you'd have all the info you need cause it's out there. But it really doesn't matter what you want, because depending on what county you're in will decide if you'll get it onto your license. So maybe you should start there big guy before wasting your time.

Non removable mag version makes it a "non assault weapon". So the weight does not matter. Just like you can buy any size and weight revolver.....cause it does not take a mag.
