NY "safe" legal semi auto centerfire rifles

I thought this might be an interesting thread to discuss all the various semi auto, centerfire "ny unsafe legal" rifles. And perhaps be Google search bait to attract new members...

Off the top of my head I thought of,

Sks
Ar15 (either a thordenson stock, spur grip, or mag lock)
Ak47 with some type of spur grip

The CA model of the SU 16 series is NY legal, I think there is another legal model as well. Whichever models that can't be fired when the stock is folded. Those versions are better anyway.

I always wanted a BAR, 30-06 with the BOSS device and figured its getting close to check out time so if I'm going to do it I better do it now. The guy at the gun shop tells me that they are illegal in NYSSR because the BOSS device is threaded on. I was so pissed off I think I ground the enamel off my molars on the way home!! So screw you cumo, I'll get an AR-10 with all the scary features and a fixed magazine.

It's a sad state of affairs. We are limited to neutering modern rifles or purchasing obscure relics.

The Saigas, Keltecs, and the Rugers are pretty much the only new semi auto rifles we can buy brand new straight out of the box with no modifications.

I've said it before, I honestly don't see how even a liberal court can rule against us. The cat is way out of the bag. If the court wants to maintain ANY semblance of integrity they have to overturn these bans. There are 30 million + "aw" in circulation. Thousands of companies exists just to service these types of firearms. Banning them would not only result in million of people becoming criminals, but mass non compliance in addition to thousands of job losses.

A question for meketrefe. The stock on that 10/22 my LGS ( And they are up on things) says is not Safe compliant, that NYSP consider it a pistol-grip! I got one for my Mini 14 and liked it so I ordered one for the 10/22 also. But know I'm sending them back! I didn't think it would be considered a pistol when I ordered it!

In my opinion a pistol grip is a pistol grip and a stock is a stock. Here's why I see it that way.

All conventional stocks have to have a grip or else how will you hold it? Some are slanted more than others. Some are more vertical.

A pistol grip resembles a solitary grip from a pistol. Pistols do not have grips that can be shouldered. If they did, it would become a stock and subject to NFA rules for SBR's (short barreled rifle).

Since your stock is a stock that cannot be put on a pistol or else it'll become an SBR, than how can it then be considered a pistol grip?

If it was considered a pistol grip, than you'd be able to legally put it on a pistol since it's not considered a stock.

Companies usually err on the side of caution. Some don't ship ammo here although legal and some won't even let you buy a pistol grip even though it is legal to possess and use on a fixed magazine or pump rifle.

Some flat out don't give a crap and will ship something considered illegal in this state like brass knuckles.

I too have to err on the side of caution! As one of the instructors with the County Pistol Safety Class!! It sucks because it really looked and felt good on my Mini 14!! ( And someone once called me a FUDD! LOL!!! ) That I also ordered one for a 10/22!

I think the SU-16A is legal but I think the CA model has a threaded barrel or some other feature that puts it on the no go list.
