Looks like schools are trying to get the ability to red flag people through their kids.

...requiring the safe storage of firearms the youth might have access to, such as a parent’s gun.
To be fair, the requirement is that the parent securely stores the firearms if the child is deemed to be a risk.
Honestly, if someone isn't storing their firearms securely around their kids or other household members, then they aren't being responsible anyway. I don't see how this is going to have a big effect on the majority of owners. (Not that I personally want the government ever telling me what to do, period.)

Exactly this ^^^I agree, but wouldn't want anyone in the "public" school system having any such "power or authority".
As a rule (there are exceptions), they are neither intelligent nor do they possess common sense. Most are leftists and minions of the state.
These are the same people who recommend your normal kid take Ritalin or other drugs, for which they have neither the background nor training. They just don't want the hassle of a normal child's activity level - so they "invented" ADD and ADHD, which don't exist - and that isn't "IMHO". This is mainly directly pointed at young active boys by FemiNazi schoolteachers. This is why there are so many FUBAR kids in the fUSA.
Sorry, they can go pound sand.
I really dislike the media...and "studies" and most statistics.
The article says that studies show that in some states these Red Flag laws have saved "hundreds" of lives.
I guess these studies assume that if the guns were not removed, everyone in the home would have been killed.
So, if a family member turns in the dad of a family of 9, an incredible 9 lives were just saved.
In fact, we will never know if one life is saved. The punishment comes before the crime.
Look at that fellow in Webster NY that shot the first responders ...Minority Report was supposed to be entertainment, not a government model.
Also interesting how that state this could have prevented the Parkland shooting... even tho the manuscripts of when the FBI was alerted about the shooter demonstrate both local and federal law enforcement were already aware of his troubled nature. But because both agencies failed at their responsibilities, instead of firing them and hiring more qualified candidates, we need more laws.
They already do according to the new red flag law in NY.Looks like schools are trying to get the ability to red flag people through their kids.

So, who gets to come and inspect your storage ?To be fair, the requirement is that the parent securely stores the firearms if the child is deemed to be a risk.

Exactly. Dad made it extremely clear what the consequences would be. He was far more effective at getting the point across than government bureaucrats. So, who gets to come and inspect your storage ?
Also, when I was growing up all the guns sat in nice wood rack with no door, let alone a lock.
Except the ones we used a lot, and they sat in a corner by the back door.
Knew not to touch them without an adult.
I see what you mean and agree to a small point, but! You do benefit from other peoples children getting an education. They are the ones that will be paying for your Medicaid and SS benefit checks. So the better educated they are the more they will make and the more they will pay in taxes.I shouldn't have to pay "school tax" when I don't even have kids. I'm not getting any benefit from this "tax".

SCHOOL OFFICIALS, THE POLICE AND FAMILY MEMBERS ALL have the ability to red flag someone.

This is exactly what these red flag laws are aimed at, rural America. So, who gets to come and inspect your storage ?
