I could understand to a certain point when everyone got their life time license to conceal and they could carry almost anywhere (understand but not condone). It’s both. Current permit holders have to get the training before they can renew the permit unless they fall under one of the exceptions.
It’s my understanding ( which can be wrong) that a lot of the prior training we have had can count toward the new requirement of training hours.

I’m just curious how do you know that previous training can be applied? They don’t even have the training course or live fire set up. I hope you’re right because I took a live fire course and an intro to CCW course that would cover most of this. The live fire course was 8 hours 4 range and 4 classroom. I’ll bet the live fire will need to be required no matter what because the instructor needs to meet certain requirements. I’ll bet it’s scored too.

Law says licenses issued under "paragraph f" of subdivision two shall be recertified or renewed in the same form and manner as otherwise required by this subdivision, [assuming it refers to subdivision 10]....

If you go look at subdivision 10, there is nothing stating a redo of the training other than if you were a pre-CCIA permit holder who never went through the 16+2 hour class.

Was it a certified trainer? I dunno. I can’t remember it was 5 years ago now and what is a certified trainer? I know the law says what it is, but I didn’t look at his credentials.

I would suspect you could keep a premise permit if it’s your choice but time will tell. It’s essentially that you don’t need to show cause for a carry permit any longer. My guess is they will make you jump through hoops for any and all permits.

Restricted how? A carry permit with restrictions by the licensing officer or an armed guard permit or target permit etc.
The new training requirement doesn’t apply to target, armed guard, premise permits. Just “ full carry” permit with or without licensing officer restrictions.

If anyone has a state renewal up in the next year, RENEW NOW on the state police website. I don't know about after 9/1, but mine renewed no problem. You can renew up to a year early. It buys you 3 years until you have to take the course. I cannot imagine the landscape looking the same in 3 years, I think they will get smacked down hard way earlier than that.

Some of us have taken many courses with certified trainers. I've repeatedly taken "Defensive Pistol" and "Pistol Accuracy and Accountability" with OFT. Great courses (which I'll be taking again in a few weeks). There is a group of frequent students who take at least 40-60 hours of pistol courses per year (not including rifle and shotgun courses).

What the heck is the state going to mandate that we learn in their "classroom" time and a mere 2 hours of live fire? Instruction on Article 35? It's not a long statute. Summarized simply: Only defend people if you must. Never defend "stuff."

I am positive that anyone who has done even moderately well in OFT's courses would breeze through any basic pistol competency test that our state could concoct.

It can still be argued that any training requirement on a right is unconstitutional. I'm inclined to agree. However, it remains prudent for anyone planning to carry a firearm to be voluntarily properly trained.

PA only issues nonresident permits to NY pistol permit holders (and only some counties). Are you talking about for those who already have NY permits?

Not sure I would assume what qualifies as satisfying the yet-to-be-issued new training requirements in New York either.

So dont think we can assume the existing PA courses will meet the new, still to be devised and written NYS courses..................for that, we have the pleasure of waiting seemingly 6/7 months!

This was/is required for the Tennessee Enhanced Carry permit. Good class, 8 hours, well worth the $80.00. I don’t know if it is applicable to the new NY bs, still haven’t received an answer about revert from 4/22.
