I always find it funny when one kind of cop says the other is not good enough. Especially members of the NYPD. One of the more unprofessional and criminal filled departments in the entire United States.

Who are the riders of these ATV's? This is not only happening in NY Shitty. This is in nearly every city across the US. Buffalo has these assholes as well.

And, who are they? More than 90% of them are black males. In every city that we see this, black males are the ones doing this.

You guys can point to all sorts of internal divisions and say "we're not the ones enforcing those laws", but for everyone outside the LE community, you're all cops.

I saw a group like this riding around Memphis on and around Beale St when I was there last summer. They came out right around dusk.

I took it as a sign that our visit was over, and rushed my wife and kid out of there.

Similar response by the cops down there - none.

NYC sheriffs aren’t cops. They don’t answer 911 calls, they don’t run a jail or house prisoners, only do civil enforcement and rarely make arrests .

Not sure if all Counties down that way have their own County Sheriffs department.

You see, I see things much differently. I served for near 25 years. I respect and honor all Vets.

Active duty, reserve, National guard. All of them. They are all equal in my book.

A Soldier in the role as a cook is just as important as a guy deployed to an area of heavy fighting.

Special Forces, Seals, Para-rescue, finance private? All the same to me. They all deserve and they all receive my full respect.

When I speak with another Vet, or I see a sticker on their truck, I do not ask how or where they served. I honor their service period.

The same goes for those in LE. I do not try to figure what they do or what kind of work the are involved in. I do not ask them how many arrests they have.

I guess this is just a huge difference in our characters. Maybe it is the area that I am in, we do not sit around judging what each other does on a daily basis. I belong to a club, it is a club for those that wear/carry a badge; we all just seem to respect each other and the contributions to society that each offer.

It’s okay. I worked for both big and small LE. I think it’s the Penis envy of some departments because they aren’t respected and have a complex about it-lol
Small departments ( in comparison to larger departments) get mad respect from a lot of NYPD officers because the individual officer is called on to do more with less specialized units behind them. It’s the small departments that aren’t called on to do much are the ones who aren’t respected . County/village cops have had the same issues between each other. And even with the state police. The state police have a tough academy and do real police work in parts of upstate but are just highway patrol downstate. They aren’t as well respected downstate as a result , But great training ,
Before the NYPD merged with the NYC housing cops and transit cops. Housing and transit cops were not respected by the public but they were respected in LE circles . Why? Because of what they dealt with.
As some people say( clean version ) , it’s not size of the dog but the fight in the dog . NYC sheriffs department is not respected in LE circles .

Honoring their service is not the same as calling them something that they are not. The person who pushed the papers in a police department might be a sworn officer , have arrests powers , but it doesn’t make them a cop. It’s an important job but it doesn’t make them a cop. They have a title of police officer or peace officer. But aren’t a cop.
If I took a navy cook, put a rifle in his hand , and gave no additional training is he a marine or be called a Ranger? But they are all military right? That’s a better comparison to illustrate my point .

Corrections officers have a very tough job , are LE , and aren’t cops. FBI agents are LE but aren’t cops .

There is a reason why in LE circles the term LEO is used more because a cop is a police/peace officer but not all police/peace officers are cops . No, calling both the cook and the Ranger "soldier" is closer to what you're talking about.

Now, your notions of who gets to be a "cop" and who doesn't is closer to the idea where most civilians call everyone in any branch a "soldier".

It may piss off a sailor or an airman if you call them soldier (and it probably will piss off a soldier of you call a sailor or airman a soldier too), but to most civilians soldier is just the name for a member of the armed forces.

Cop, police officer, peace officer, etc are the same way. Those in the industry have their notions of all the fine distinctions, but to the outside world it doesn't matter.

You probably think of everyone who works with pipes as a "plumber". But in the industry, a plumber is not a pipefitter is not a steamfitter. But to you any guy connecting pipes is a plumber, right ?
