NYC, We Don't Want Your Crap

One thing you guys are missing is that NYC didnt just randomly pick a town and start dumping shit.They ask for bids and somebody from whatever town offers to take it for a price.So it actually comes down to the town basically asking for the shit/trash.Blame the local politicians.

In my backyard there is a massive landfill (high acres landfill). They ship NYC's trash to it by the train load. If you drive through eastern fairport around Xmas that pretty string of xmas lights up on a hill--that's not a hill of dirt, but a hill of trash.

I used to live in the village, and we'd get hit with the smell when the wind was just right. My kids went to a daycare over by Dudley and it hit there even more. It's awful.

I lived on Staten Island for 20 years.The biggest landfill in the world was on Staten Island.They finally closed it and the smell went away pretty quickly.Its so big they plan to make a ski slope on it.I believe it is the highest point on the east coast now.

two years back it was ferocious, really awful. I lived around 5 miles north east of it and was increasingly smelling it. Of course many of us looked in awe as people built $400k+ houses on Magnolia drive just across the street from the dump.

I can say it's a great deal better now. There was a movement "fresh air for the east side" that got a lot of attention to it, particularly by people who lived on/off magnolia and were concerned about their home values plummeting, not to mention nasty air. Looks like WM just burns it in a great big smoke stack now, you can see it at night as you drive by.

I was in that group until we moved, and the politics involved was sickening, especially the crap with Macedon taking loans from WM.
