Not sure exactly what to make of the statement but it sounds like there could be some behind-the-scenes sensitivity over the optics of a large gun confiscation/recovery. The preemptive clarification appears...uncharacteristic.

Almost makes me feel warm and fuzzy that they are not considering law abiding citizens to be criminals...this time.

Someone turned them in. Apparently, they charged too much.

Only one of the guns was a “ghost gun” without a serial number.

The original investigation was sparked by a Springfield Gardens resident who called in a tip about gun sales in the neighborhood, said Inspector Brian Gill, commanding officer of the Firearms Suppression Section.

“The average price was $1,035,” Gill told The Post after the news conference. “Typically people charge double retail on an illegal firearms purchase.”

Yes, her comments were actually reasonable in this instance. "legally purchased firearms held by law abiding citizens" is not a premise libs like to legitimize, I'm surprised she didn't gag while saying it.
Of course the answer to your question varies with where the question is directed, if it wasn't meant rhetorically. She is just a tiny fraction. She won her 2019 election by just 60 votes out of 90K cast and she's had some ethics violations alleged, so she may be just trying piss off as few people as possible. But it may also be that she is reading the tea leaves after Bruen. If I were a politician, especially in her position and there seemed a possibility that a growing segment of my constituents might become law abiding citizen gun owners, I might want to start acknowledging them.

The good news is that they only got 182 guns over 2 years of investigation.

The number of guns trafficked must have been in the thousands...............and plenty of %$#&*()$ ...GET THE DRIFT??? likely got tips on where and who to buy them from on the sly, as backups and for personal use.

The rest of the thousands in NYC are residing in the possession of people, who clearly carry them for self defense purposes in dangerous situations, mostly successfully , I may add...............the shootings that occur like in chicago, are usually related to the profession of drug related activities.
The guns are actually legal, there has never been a gun convicted of a crime yet.

The Fed training class, like 2017-35C, is for the 17-22 year old drones who are trained to be the mass shooters, and have nothing to do with supplying inner cities with weapons.................. If there was no demand, there would be no supply.
