Is the allowance given yearly or is it s one time thing? I know Court officers get a yearly allowance and if they don't need to buy new stuff (they rarely do) they pocket the money. When I had to but new suits for my previous job tax payers didn't pick up the tab.

The $550 or so it adds to that paycheck is easily off-set by purchases for anyone who doesn't neglect their uniforms. And as someone else said, the first 3-4 years are a wash right off the bat due to the $3000+ spent coming in. And forget about anyone in a special detail. They can easily spend a few thousand a year on equipment. The reason it's a complaint is because FDNY issues equipment AND the FF's still get the allowance.

Mine's $950 fyi. For some reason the city made a point of demanding $50 back on our last contract.

My retirement plan involves PA btw. My fiance's job in NJ is only about 45 minutes from Easton and if nothing changes, my kids would only be 70 minutes from the same town.

As for the clothing allowance...

Mine is $750 per year. After taxes comes out to about $575. Each uniform is $120. I need to get at least two a year. Decent boots are around a hundred bucks. More than half is gone. Throughout the year, say a flashlight breaks, I gotta pay for that as well.

I know that many say, "I have to buy all my crap as well", while that may be true, this is part of my overall compensation package done through contracts.

My initial start up purchase was well over $2500. I just dropped many hundreds on a new vest as well. I am not complaining, I knew all this ahead of taking the job.



And as for the OT, hell yes, if it is there, we take it as much as possible.

That hasn't been my experience and I hang out with them all the time.

Also remember roughly 40% to 50 %don't live at in NYC. The number of those who live in the city has gotten higher as it has a younger department ( younger in terms of less experience- as oppose to the past) haven't had families and moved out of city tobuy a house yet.

Many have not had experience with a gun or gun owners yet. That will change. And their attitudes will change as they get more time on especially as they see how arbitrary the permit process can be.

And yes there are anti gun cops but a lot of pro 2A cops to cop in that department. Remember the pro 2A cops have lay low because of the politics of those in charge

yet y'all sure dont "lay low because of the politics" when its time for a contract...

So the officers who have been on the force the longest, makeing top pay, and rediculous overtime are crying they have to spend $550 for an upgrade. My trigger and scope rings cost more then that. Seriously sound like children when you complain about the toys you don't get for free.

Can't really tell if this is a shot at me or not. No where in my posts was I complaining. Hell, I even stated that I knew ahead of time what I was in for with the costs of the job.

I don't expect anyone to pay my bills and pay for my equipment. Never once did I say anything of the like.

No it was sincere. If you guys didn't pay for your own stuff it would be yet another thing the taxpayers had to foot the bill for. Can't really complain if you (rhetorical you) know what you're getting into before hand.

I think the vests are all new or within the expiration dates. That being said my buddy was a Army Ranger in the late 90's. He would always say the jump masters would tell the guys in airborne school they were about to use a chute that was made by the lowest bidder haha.

Many Union members have been "Union" for so long, they forget, or never knew, what the non-union world looks like.

Too many times Union members forget that nothing if free. If they are not paying for something, it is, well, it's free. No, no it is not. With Public Unions, Police, Fire Teachers and the like, the Tax Payers are footing the bill. Private Unions are just as bad. They want and want and the hell to whoever is paying the bill. Nothing is free.

Many in the union feel they are entitled to whatever they need and or want. The DESERVE the best equipment, they DESERVE the best medical, they DESERVE the best of everything that they can get.

I started out as a mechanic and spent thousands on tools when I started out. I know mechanics today that have tool boxes full of tools worth more then a new car. ever price a wrench set from snap on ?
What's glock new revolutionary design anyway , they haven't changed thier guns since the 1980s. I don't have any issues with glocks as a whole except they are way overpriced.
