NYS legal window tint...

So when did they update, change the tint % thing on vehicles again? Took truck to be inspected today. Got passed but tint was not ok legally. Said has to be 70% see through? I'll take it off so they don't get in trouble passing it, but WTF? I can clearly see my seat headrest, and the dash through windows. Been on there since 1995. Now I'll remove it just so not to get pulled over for dumb ass ticket. Not had ANY TYPE ticket in well over 30 years.... NYS really SUCKS !!!!! On way home I seen BRAND NEW SUV's WAAAAAYYYYY darker than mine that look factory. Mine since 95 are only smoke grey, not black, or black out.... tint.jpg tint1.JPG

Easy, you simply learn how to drive, lol! How is it the fastest vehicles are auto? I'm talking street vehicles not some fancy shmancy racer thing. Manual gives you more control over the vehicle and drives the women crazy with lust.

On a CORRECT setup street rod with stahl converter etc.... NO HAND can shift as fast as a CORRECTLY built B&M matched motor tranny etc... !!!

Tint has always been illegal, now however they are actually enforcing it. Vehicles with illegal tint can no longer pass NYS inspection. The driver and passenger front doors of a vehicle can not be tinted beyond 70% light transmission. Rear windows can be darker than that. With your truck being a regular cab, you can tint your rear window and the top 6" of your windshield. Your driver and passenger front door can not be tinted beyond stock tint. In regards to SUV's being tinted, it is only the rear doors and the cargo area glass that is tinted. The front doors are the same as everything else.

Yes !!! That IS what I seen today on rear WAAAY darker blacked out on rear of new SUV's. So my rear window is fine? Thanks for posting ...

Trucks and SUVs are exempt from rear window tint. Front still has to be 70% though. Cars have to have 70% or more on all side windows driver and rear passenger Windows. Look at the sticker on the door if it says mpv then rears are exempt is it says passenger then rears are tested. Also cars 1992 and older can have 35% tint and rear windows are exempt on 1992 and older passenger cars.

This is the part i don't understand. Why would it matter if it is a passenger vehicle or an MPV? Both carry backseat passengers. In fact, I bet there are far more 'soccer mom' MPVs carrying a ton of kids in the back than there are your average Chevy Cruze.

Stupid laws are stupid! They'd have been better off legislating that you have to open ALL windows in the event you are stopped.

I got a 24 hour fix it ticket when I first moved here. My tint was legal in WA so I didn't even think about until I got pulled over.

The officer was cool about it and said that I needed to remove it in 24 hours and the ticket will be dismissed.

I think he was looking for something else/excuse because he flipped around going the opposite direction just to stop me for a tint ticket...Not sure how he knew it was too dark going 45 in the opposite direction.

Because MPV (SUV's / Vans) don't have a separate trunk and instead carry cargo inside the passenger compartment of the vehicle. NYS wants vans and SUV's to have tinted rear windows so that way people can not see the cargo you are carrying, vs with a car you can lock your cargo inside a separate compartment (the trunk)
