Early talks are under way to expand the program with the Gov't licensing commercial enterprises to access limited data for the purpose of private financial transactions. Auctioning access bandwidth akin to radio frequency leasing, institutions will share bandwidth, limited to prevent overloading the Gov't ability to process its own validation processing.
Some banks and credit institutions are formulating a legal fight as they intend to focus their complaint upon the negative impact this route will take upon the monetary system and exclude those unwilling to submit to the Gov't fee structure. Liberals are complaining it is disadvantageous to minorities and those who are not are not permanent residents. Scientists and the Medical field are indicating concerns over unresearched effects upon the body as the skin has been identified as an organ and this may seriously impact it's function. Google and other Data collection agencies have expressed concern over the Gov't encroaching upon their efforts replacing private industry well established and entrenched. They have not indicated their next step to combat what they have initially indicated is an unwarranted and unprecedented intrusion into basically a Gov't takeover of private commercial enterprises.
The Federal Gov't has countered by outlining the benefits, especially if implanted at birth, namely the ability to provide tracking data throughout the carriers life, from scholastic data, medical and financial... All biometrics and experiences, transactions, location data included. The Federal Gov't has also noted a program instituted under DOHS budgeting to begin installation of the sensor network and server/data collection architecture.

It has nothing to do with domestic travel. Global Entry and NEXUS are programs to vet you for international travel. Basically it’s a way to cut the line.

As far as i know the background check for a CDL HazMat is done by the feds. Mine was.
I'll look later, I was tired last night, but I thought I read that the enhanced was no longer going to be valid because if the openness of the process to get a DL in NY State for the non citizens. I hope this is true.

You won’t be able to use a regular old driver’s license for flying as of October. Enhanced is fine. Illegals aren’t eligible to apply for enhanced.

When I lived in WNY, I got NEXUS at the Canadian office in Ft. Erie. It gets you expedited access at the Canadian border, and it also qualifies for TSA Pre when flying. TSA Pre is only good for 5 yrs (?), and it is more expensive than Nexus, which is good for 7 years.
If you've ever sat in long lines at the Peace Bridge in Buffalo, you would appreciate NEXUS. Since I moved to NC, I changed my address. I called NEXUS, and they told me I could still keep it after having moved out of state. Apparently, you cannot apply for NEXUS initially if you aren't living in a border state with Canada. They were not sure if I would have to come to Buffalo to renew it in person, - they said it might get renewed without a visit required. But even though I am no longer a NY resident, I can still use it for DHS requirements, - including TSA Pre lines when flying.
It would definitely be a huge PITA if DHS were to take it further, and rule that NY, CA, and other "sanctuary" states D/L's were no longer valid ID for flying, but it would definitely send a big FU to Princess Fredo and Gavin Newsom to let them know that the sanctuary crap will no longer fly. (no pun intended...)

I'm watching C-SPAN about facial recognition and biometrics. NY now blocks access to NYS info for trusted traveler status. NY had no contact with CBP, ICE etc. before putting it into effect. CBP found out when access was turned off with no warning.
Watching these idiots ask about it especially a Dem from NY is hilarious. The NY Republican is fully aware of the problem and is against the block. The NY Dem was shocked to hear that her Global ID clearance cannot be renewed due to this block.
The NYS block was not the subject of the hearing. Just an interesting side note.

A few years ago, when I renewed my drivers license, I decided to spend the extra $30/8 years fee and upgrade to an Enhanced DL. I thought it would be prudent to be able to provide instant proof of US citizenship anytime anywhere. Also while I was at it brought my DD214 with, to have 'Veteran' on my DL as well, most places will accept this as bona fide proof for discount purposes. Obtaining an Enhanced DL at the NYS DMV was a serious process.
Because of our close proximity to Canada, a Border Patrol (Chevy Tahoe) vehicle is a common sight on the roads here, and involved in many traffic stops. Undoubtedly has to do with migrant farm workers as well, as many hail from other countries (I.e. Dominican Republic).
Imo Cuomo and his liberal anti-common sense cronies are to blame for this. It is the logical outcome of restricting info from the Feds, for travel abroad.
What's he thinking, 100 years from now they'll build a statue of him, champion of the illegal immigrant underground railroad?
