I think what will happen and what they are counting on is that younger people will chose weed over guns and this will be a way to diminish the amount of gun owners. When there are few gun owners the attack on the 2a will be much easier and more successful.

My guess at their angle was more along the lines of generating lists of known users and holding those up with 4473’s (come on, you didn’t really think that info was collected for point of sale only did you?), firearm registries/permit holder records, and the like.

Starting with denial of future acquisitions and moving toward a confiscation push, sold in the media as “eliminating dangerous firearms from known drug users”.

There's no pre employment testing for alcohol. Why should there be for cannabis?

You show up for work drunk or tipsy and you're sent home for the day, or for good.
You show up stoned you're sent home for the day, or for good.

NYS is an at will employment state, meaning you can be terminated for just about anything.

Alcohol is legal. Now cannabis is legal. That doesn't mean consumption of either before or during work hours are permissible.

You guys who support the drug testing are not thinking this through rationally. Not testing for hiring reasons doesn't translate into permission to work while stoned.

The difference is cannabis residuals will stay in your system for 30 days after your last use. If someone is a totally responsible consumer of cannabis, just like a responsible alcohol drinker, they'd never be hired because of the residual in their system. An alcoholic could be hired without ever knowing you just hired an abuser.

I was just talking to a friend who uses edibles this weekend and they make him hallucinate and feel things that aren’t happening to him. That’s just the recommended dose. Many use over that since edibles take a while to kick in. A few beers will not do that.

The main reason for this is because current testing standards have not yet been developed to determine level of impairment at any given time. My metabolism may be so vastly different from the next guy's that I show 4x the metabolite they do when I smoked 2 weeks ago, and they are a daily user.

I also know very accomplished people in esteemed positions that are users. People talk about a silent majority; well pot users have been a silent majority in this country for decades.

I normally don't support government intrusion but drug testing policies are backwards when it comes to marijuana; especially in states where it's "legal."

Like everything else, I think it's flawed people who have problems with drugs, and not drugs that make them flawed.

But drugs can sure screw someone up badly.

I know some people who use pot recreationally and have no trouble.

But just like alcohol, some people will let it take over their lives.

I've seen what heavy chronic use can do, and it can take a very smart person and turn them into a Joe Biden level intellect.

But, freedom does not exist if people aren't allowed to make bad choices, so it is what it is.

Maybe we should be writing the laws based on what actually matters, and not some proxy for it.

What we care about for DWI is judgement and reaction time.

If it's impaired, does it really matter the cause, or tolerance level of the driver ?

If it's not impaired does it matter what their blood chemistry is ?

So, the law should be based on the actual important metric. If you're judgement or reaction time is compromised, it doesn't matter if it was weed, alcohol, age, or sleep deprivation that caused it.

If you're judgment and reaction time are not below the standard, then why does society care ?

My issue with testing is it dictates what you can do on your own time. No problem people being clean while working . But what they do on their own time is up to them.

Funny how all these laws only effect the blue collar working class. I know plenty of white collar guys who drink regularly during the work day.
