What happened to walking to school up hill in a snow storm 5 miles barefoot?
I have no issue with it other than an employed truck driver won’t leave a $70-$100,000 to drive a school bus. Also what if they do leave and drive a bus?
What’s more important Johnny getting to school or Johnny getting fed?
Go ask a local farmer and see what they are paying to get goods shipped in and out. Also go ask them how easy it is to find some one to ship the food we need.
Can be scary, I get that. Also, you don't know schools will be shutdown in a month, that's pure speculation. It's possible, like basically anything in life, but far from certain. This is what is scary to me.
Plus all the schools will be shutdown in another month anyway and we won’t need them.
Try $50,000-65,000. To get into six figure territory you need to be an owner-op and guess what? After they pay all their overhead they take home around $70,000 or so on average.I have no issue with it other than an employed truck driver won’t leave a $70-$100,000 to drive a school bus. Not sure that lawsuit would go anywhere.Until the district gets sued... because thanks to the last 30 years in this country everyone is a litigious douchebag.
You think paying to bus every kid is expensive? Wait until you have a lawsuit over some kid getting injured or abducted while walking to school.
I don't disagree about the tort system, just pointing out why they bus every kid nowadays. Even the cost of defending a lawsuit you win can be enormous. My guess is they did a risk analysis and determined paying to bus every kid was the likely cheaper option. Not sure that lawsuit would go anywhere.
Otherwise anytime any kid got hurt anywhere they would have been "on their way to school".
They're not *required* to take the bus now.
Or, we could, I don't know, fix the fucking tort system.
SCOTUS should eliminate all immunity for government agents, and you'd see that shit fixed fast.
I bet they heard from a couple of their neighbors and found out that parents wanted kids bussed, and that taxpayers would foot the bill.I don't disagree about the tort system, just pointing out why they bus every kid nowadays. Possibly for all CDL drivers. I know of plenty of over the road or long haul drivers that make more. Walmart store manager told me they are starting them at $95k now.Try $50,000-65,000. To get into six figure territory you need to be an owner-op and guess what? After they pay all their overhead they take home around $70,000 or so on average.
That's a fairytale inflated figure. That is an overly optimistic highball estimate based on a driver traveling tge maximum distance allowed under the hours of service regulations. It does not take into account delays at shippers/receivers, traffic, construction, weather, breakdowns or delays in getting dispatched onto new loads. It also doesn't account for hometime. At a $.62 per mile rate I could probably hit 85k a year if I drove 620 miles a day every day, every week month after month. In reality that just isn't possible. You strive for a 500 mile per day average and even that is not possible sometimes, particularly in the Northeast.Possibly for all CDL drivers. I know of plenty of over the road or long haul drivers that make more. Walmart store manager told me they are starting them at $95k now.
Maybe they should make kids walk a little bit further, change the requirements and the minimum mileage make these fat little kids walk
That is technically possible if the school were situated at the bottom of a valley.Uphill, both ways, in the snow, just like the old days.
me tooJust got this email from dmv
Dear
This school year, a nationwide school bus driver shortage has negatively impacted the beginning of the school year for many school districts in New York State.
As a current or former CDL holder, you may be qualified to serve your community as a school bus driver this school year. Given the shortage this year, many districts are offering signing bonuses, retention bonuses and other incentives to attract drivers.
If you are interested in helping the children of your community, please fully complete DMV’s School Bus Driver Candidate Survey.
If you are already serving your community as a school bus driver, please disregard this email and thank you very much!
Thank you,
New York State DMV
I love it you maybe qualified to serve your community.Just got this email from dmv

So what are you going to do?

But it's for "the children".I got the email too. I have a class A with hazmat and tanker. Like I am going to give up my Teamster job that I have had for close to 25 years to make $300 a week to drive a school bus.
My sister drives cross country and right now is making $ 80,00.00 as a company driver for a company out of North Dakota. She's been driving cross country for years.Try $50,000-65,000. To get into six figure territory you need to be an owner-op and guess what? After they pay all their overhead they take home around $70,000 or so on average.
I hope you’re making good money since they are practically begging for you to show up to work right now.I got the email too. I have a class A with hazmat and tanker. Like I am going to give up my Teamster job that I have had for close to 25 years to make $300 a week to drive a school bus.
According to my wife that works with all them little bastards, that's not NEAR enough.$30 bucks an hour with 50 hours per week is what they'd have to give me.
Roger that. Only thing worse is painting. If it’s such an emergency, then send in Uber drivers-lol
I know a few retired cops who said before they retired they would work as school bus drivers as a retirement job. I’d rather stay working full time than do that.
