It's a NY State Supreme Court ruling. They ruled that assisted knives fall under the state law that covers switchblades. The ruling applies to the whole state, not just NYC.

I didn't like the thumb studs on the Kershaw I had, can't really use the thumb hole on spiderco (arthritis is killing my thumbs recently) . I absolutely love my assisted Benchmade. Just a very light touch on the well placed stud, and that blade flies out with authority.

I had a Spyderco. my knives are working knives. I don't care for gimmicks or switchblades. Like I said, knives are tools I use every day, sometimes on an hourly basis.

I honestly don't give a flying shit what the law says. If I get "caught" with an assisted opening knife, Im sure LEO will admonish me for having it, take it or give me a ticket or all of the above. And within 60 minutes I'll have another one.

This is just another ridiculously stupid law to try and control the population. Fuck NYC, Im sick and tired of those shitholes legislatures telling me how to live my life

Technically it is a ruling of the Court of Appeals, the highest level court for state law. Supreme Court in NY is actually the lowest level court of general jurisdiction. It’s FUAC’s fault.

And — just a reminder — switchblades are 100% legal to possess when fishing or hunting if you have a valid fishing or hunting license. If in NYC, the blade must be <4” long.

What are you supposed to do with them when you aren't hunting or fishing? If it's sitting at home in a drawer, and you haven't renewed your hunting/fishing licence for what ever reason, are you breaking the law?

Almost certainly, if you are unlicensed (hunting or fishing). If you have a valid license and are possessing it at home for use while fishing/hunting, you are probably OK.

Go to ebay instead of Amazon. I had the same issue. Although Amazon would ship to their pickup location but not my house.
