Appalled at this. Hoping there’s some real consequences for the officer but I’m sure there won’t be, although the body cam footage is pretty damning.

A family’s pet lab mix was gunned down in their neighbor’s driveway this holiday weekend. The three-year-old lab mix named Dixie was shot and killed by a Lorain police officer. The shooting is still under investigation.

Anyone ever look at European policing methods? Nothing like this happens there. If so, its so very very rare. I am fascinated at how well these European departments de-escalate situations and truthfully when under pressure, appear far more professional that our own. Today we see a police officer acting like an emotionless robot and call them professional. If you can't handle a "family pet dog" then the job isn't for you. You are the intruder to it.
Actually there is a long list of Alpha traits an officer should posses today but that isn't socially acceptable. lol

I just looked at the link. F*&^ing ridiculous. How the hell does this person get on a department? Fire and charge. We charge owners for abuse of their pets and in some cases send them to jail. So make an example of this POS.

I guess if anyone walked towards him at a brisk pace they'd be a threat and dealt with too... I'm sorry, but this guy is a problem, whatever it might be, but still a problem! And as such, should be dealt with, but in all probability won't be... Not sure I would've survived this encounter because I most certainly would've been in that MF'ers face!

Was thinking the same thing. Also wondering if his department has any K-9 units and how their handlers feel about this. They should turn their dogs loose on this Fucker - show him a real example of what it's like to be charged by an aggressive dog. Shoot a Golden Retriever...FFS...fucking pussy

This problem will only get worse as more and more PD's lower their recruitment standards just to maintain their ranks. Experienced good cops have been forced out by the de-fund crowd, and now we enter the vicious cycle.

This PIG had no idea how to read the potential situation and plan an appropriate response. Even if he was unsure, he should have had his mace ready to deploy first, rather than his sidearm.

Also, you don't make gestures or give commands to a dog you are unfamiliar with, since you don't know how they may be interpreted. His finger pointing at the first dog may have been a command trigger for Dixie.

One of the biggest problems I see with police is they don't teach de-escalation correctly, nor do they use the de-escalation tactics enough.

Many countries outside the US, their police don't even carry guns, unless they are called in or they are of certain rank or detail. They master and use the art of de-escalation tactics on most if not all situations.

Which brings in the fact that there is so much militarization of local and city police that it actually infringes on our armed forces. I have a few friends that are in the National Guard, that they view most police departments that buy the surplus or outright buy military style equipment as infringing on their duties, to the point of undermining their operations and training programs.

A woman in the city of High Point called cops saying she had been trapped in her house with her children due to an aggressive German shepherd that refused to leave her yard Sunday morning, authorities said in a statement.

A responding officer tried to catch the aggressive dog but it ran away, the official account claims.

A neighbor said they knew where the dog’s owners lived [...] However, when the officer walked down the home’s driveway in search of the German shepherd, a “black dog (not the German Shepherd) came out from behind the home, barking aggressively, and charged at the officer,” the department alleges.

The officer, who has not been IDed by the department, backed up and shot the dog four times when it was around five to seven feet away.

No one was standing in the adjacent yard or the driveway when the shots were fired, police claim. [...] Lee and Marykay Barnes, disputed the official narrative, saying they were home at the time of the shooting, and actually in the driveway when the officer fired.

WTF is wrong with these assholes?

Apparently this cop had eyes on the Shepard but instead shoots a Black Lab? Hell of a case of mistaken identity.

Why not hand this off to Animal Control?

Second asshole - I'll hold judgement.

I once threatened to shoot a detective on a scene I was on. Had a DOA and he shows up. Pittie was scared shitless since her human was dead and a bunch of strangers in her house. He goes "I'll shoot that dog." I immediately replied "Not if I shoot you first. Better idea, get the fuck off my scene". Wound up wrasslin the pup into a collar and leash to take to an animal hospital. She was perfectly fine just scared.
