Can't rule out all dems/progs/libs spontaneously combusting.
Can't rule out Kim Jong Un EMP'ing the entire free world.
Can't rule out a plague wiping out all sheep/lamb so when God strikes down all first born males again there'll be no lambs blood to smear over my threshold.

It's not a a TEOTWAWKI size asteroid, but depending on where it lands it could certainly do some damage, even enough to change the whole geopolitical landscape, but not a civilization ender by any stretch.
Also, it appears that we're safe in 2029, but that will be so close that the next pass in 2036 will be unpredictable.
Could be that the 2029 pass kicks it right out of the way and it'll never get close again, or could be that it lines it up for a hit in 2036.
Basically it's going to "slingshot" around the earth in 2029, and we're not sure exactly what orbit it'll end up in after that.

I'm not sure what would happen if they needed to evacuate Europe or something, but you can bet people would be running for the hills.
Assuming we don't do something to stop it.
After the 2029 flyby they should have a pretty good idea if it'll hit in 2036, and it's not *that* big, should be divertable.

While that is completely true, the government will still hide it. Won't hear a peep on MSM either. It will be little captions "asteroid to fly close to earth". The buzz will be from social media, were the truth will be out about when znd where it will strike.

As for asteroids the gov can't hide things like this, tons of amateurs out there. Also, if an asteroid of significant size was going to hit we would have many years warning and I do believe we could knock it off course with nukes. The further out it is tapped, the less force needed to do it. AFAIK there are no asteroids of meaningful size set to hit the globe for a very, very long time, and our technology keeps getting better anyway to knock them off.
