Yeah. A thread. I'm still digesting the class and there's a lot to share. If you're interested follow along.
In short, @OnSight Firearms Training and @Dauntlessgroup put together a great class at an awesome facility.
Let me get the negative (only one) out of the way first. Try not to let your day get in the way of the training (thanks for the quote Ben). Every class is going to have Admin time, where you need to reload, piss, eat, drink, etc. Remember that the longer you take, the less the rest of the class gets. For those of you that choose to bring 4 mags and reload them 1 round at a time, remember we're all waiting on you. Could you load stripper clips before the class? Double up on your mags so you don't have to reload until lunch? Any of these things help keep the class moving and get you more time learning from the folks you paid to learn from.
That was the only thing about the class that bugged me, but it was a minor thing. I think Ben would have stayed until midnight if we all would have hung out (maybe he did). It's just something to think about as a student. Do you want to be the last person back to the line after an Admin break?
In this case, the longer you took, the longer the rest of us spent standing still in a 35* puddle of horse shit.
On the other hand, you could have 87 mags on your chest plate that prevented you from getting into an actual prone. There is a balance.
Another takeaway from the class - don't settle on one place to carry mags. I ran a chest rig that held 7, but trying to reload from a chest rig in prone isn't optimal if you want to stay low. What if you had one or two on your belt, or in a cargo pocket for when you're steeping yourself in horse shit tea? Don't assume one way is better than another. I watched folks run spare mags in dump pouches or hoodie pockets and shoot faster and more accurately than anyone else.
More to come in this thread.
