Hello everyone I,m a newbie to this forum.was wondering is it legal in the state of NY to open carry during gun season.I have a 10mm glock that I would like to hunt with this fall using a chest holster.

All I know is that I have been doing it for years. By me, the police wouldn’t bat an eye if they saw someone at the gas station open carrying during hunting season. I also do work around my property open carrying and no one has ever said anything.

It must be legal.

Is there a daily limit or seasonal limit as to how many guns you can take? Also, when does gun season run from and till?

yup can of worms wish someone would post a definitive answer. I've open carried during big game season and while hiking in the Gunks and other state parks never had a problem

I have plenty of times. I’ve posted excerpts from Penal Law 265 and 400. The problem is that people don’t want to believe it’s illegal since they’ve been doing it for years and law enforcement has been looking the other way.

According to the DEC......you may carry pistol in an open holster.......whatever that means.

It's one of those things where, if you are actually hunting, nobody will say anything. What are you going to do, conceal a pistol until it's actually time to shoot? That's a little ridiculous. If you're in a tiny town getting gas in the Southern Tier during hunting season, the cops down there may not say anything. Open carry in downtown Rochester at 8pm? You're going to be taking a ride with the cops.

Personal story time.... I have a 44 mag revolver with scope. I carry it in a bandolier chest rig. I only hunt private land and have never run across any DEC or anything. I'd be perfectly fine carrying like that on state land though.
