opinions on EDC trigger.....

I have been carrying the PPQ m2 for about 4 months now. It's a great firearm, but I have one concern with it, the trigger is very lite. I might be thinking that its to lite for EDC. I know some folks are going to say that it is a non issue, all I need to do is keep my fingers off the trigger till I'm ready to shoot. I agree 100% with this, but ...while shooting on the range I have accidentally double tapped more then once. The gun was designed for very quick follow up shots. The trigger has a lite pull with a quick crisp break with an equally quick reset. I have gotten use to this trigger and have not had any issue for some time, but I'm still a little concerned that during a high stress action I could have issues with this trigger pull. Am I right to be concerned or am I over thinking this?

That's why I chose the Springfield xd over the sig 320. Well that and I could not find the model I wanted for any less than $200 more than the xd. I like the xd trigger. It has a little creep, but not too much. It also has the grip safety. So I figured if the trigger got caught on my clothes or something it would not go off. Everyone has their own opinions and what they are comfortable carrying.

Have you measured the pull? Does it have a short reset? The follow up double tap is the reset, may be too short. Is it adjustable?

Personally, I don't see the need for anything less than 5# on a carry. Target shooting can have less... But that's my opinion...

The XD9 Subcompact is also in my rotation and I really like the gun. I just bought a P-320 and really like the trigger on it. In Fact, if I do stop carrying the PPQ, the p320 will most likely take it's place.

It's a nice trigger!! It's been said that it's the best out of the box trigger on any polymer striker fired hand gun. My question is: is it too nice for carry? If you have the chance, fire one.

I would not consider carrying the PPQ for reasons you already have spoke on. However, I love and do carry a P99. Every bit as nice a trigger as the PPQ with the ability to de cock, carry in DA, second strike capable. A remarkably versitile FCG.
PPQ for range/competition and P99 for carry.
I have no problem with the Folks who advocate carrying the PPQ. You asked for opinions and mine is just one of many.g

The stated trigger pull 5.6 lbs, .4" trigger travel, and .1" reset. The pull is very smooth with a short take up to the wall. The wall breaks away with no effort and then bang. There is no creep at all once you hit the wall. The reset is is very short and your ready to go again.

In comparison, The P320 is rated between 5.5 lbs and 7 ", But it's very different feel. It's nice and smooth short take up to the wall , but the break takes a little effort to get past where as the PPQ is just a thought and it goes bang.

It is not adjustable.

I had concerns too, but after shooting it, and a ton of dry fire practice I think there is enough take up, and enough weight on the wall to keep you out of trouble. Practice standard gun safety and I'm sure you will be fine. Also consider that trigger will do a lot to help keep you on target under stress and keeping errant rounds down.

think this has been discussed, but I can't find it.

I know in your class, you seemed to key in on 5.5lbs as a good DAO trigger pull.

I've found that for my wife and sister they can handle the recoil on my M&P Pro with the long slide much better than other guns they've tried. They give a factory range of I think 4.0 to 5.5 on those.

My question is whether using a gun like the M&P Pro with a factory trigger that could be 4lbs is a concern, or is the fact that it's within the factory specs make it OK to use?

Also, will something like the pro, which is arguably geared more to competition than self defense make it a less than ideal gun to use for self defense (again, purely from the standpoint of having to defend a justifiable shooting, God forbid that ever happened).

HERE IS ANSWER

The standard seems to be factory spec for duty use, which varies between manufacturers. Glock, for example, says 5.5 minimum for duty, and when Tactical/Practical series guns are ordered by police departments, ships them with 4.5s. For S&W, best bet is to reach out to the factory and get from them in writing their minimum DUTY trigger pull specs for M&P Pro, and make sure you're within that.

That's right about where the PPQ sits. Most, like mine, measure at 5 lbs. Some run a little lighter it seems, but not by much. Again I think that the PPQ is EDC safe. Proper gun handling form is key, and a heavy trigger will not save the careless either, as we have read in these very forums.

It's just an excellent arm altogether, great fun at the range too. I find it compared very favorably to the very fancy P226 Legion I, in part, traded it in for.

I was not comfortable with the p320 because the one o fondled had not creep at all and the pull was very light. I could see an accidental discharge happening with it just getting caught on a shirt or something. Every trigger is a bit different though even on the same gun. It sounds like you have some other good reliable options and the best thing to carry is what you shoot well and your comfortable with.

I'm wondering if I got PPQ with a little more sensitive trigger then most? Hard to say with just a sample of size of one. I'm also wondering about the 320's trigger. Saltwater60 says he was concerned about the lightness of the trigger on the one he handled. Mine has has less take up then the PPQ, but a far more pronounced wall and requires more effort for the break. DON'T get me wrong, the p320's trigger is not stiff by anymeans, but it's not as a "soft" as the PPQ.

I agree 100%....this is why I am posting asking for opinions. I have approx 800 rd threw the PPQ. I am far more comfortable with the trigger then when I first started using it. As of right now, i'm taking it out of rotation. I will use my XD 9 subcompact until I have trained enough with the 320 to feel 100 % comfortable with the reliability and use of the firearm. Like you said, there are no 2nd chances.

I was for sure Darth, But I didn't have that issue with any other firearm. Like I said, I have over come that, but I still have that nagging fear that I could have issues with it under a stressful situation. LOL when I did do it though, the round ended up right in the target, grouped well.

Honestly, for defensive training/shooting one should not be riding the reset in the first place as it can either, as mentioned above, lead to doubling or lead to short stroking and not resetting the trigger. Let the trigger all the way out.
