Optics decision time.

And I've read that the adjustments do not correlate to the reticle. Is this true? I ask because this scope is on my short list. How is daytime illumination? Reticle provide a good balance of close range speed and long(mid) range precision? It would survive a good bump?

Huh? This thing is perfect. It has never lost zero. I can dial (and do) and it returns to zero. I have been running it for 3-4 years in all weather conditions monsoon rain, sun, snow, desert conditions (back to back ironman 3 gun in the idaho desert 6 days at or near 113 degrees). 6 degrees F.

it was transported in my trunk in all 4 seasons. Flown on airplans. traveled by uspo and ups.

I run my stuff real hard. I dont baby anything.

I run the ffp FWIW.

Oh. I dont ever turn the reticle on. I took the battery out after it died and never replaced it.

Doesnt that put you in open?

I run straight 1x. No need for offsets IMO. If they are close i juat look at the targets......i can hit uspsa targets out to 15 ish yards without looking at any sights.....juat pull up and look at the target.

FWIW I am comfortable runnjng out to 100 on 1x.....if they are 2MOA targeta or so inwill go to 1.5 at 100. Anymore just amplifies my wobble.

If i shot ipen and was running a 3-? Or 4-? Power optic i may run 45s.

Honestly I am not sure, right in the middle of putting this setup together, I lost my job. So I have not even zeroed this setup, was too depressing. Now that i am working again, maybe in the spring i will finish. I have shot idpa but that season would have been my first 3 gun. Honestly the red dot on 45 was not just for 3 gun but for futures issues that could arise. I wanted something that I could use in three gun but also in a scout role.

I didn't know they had a 1-6 in the viper line, i love my viper 4-16, and i'm not dropping the value of my car on an optic. I think this one may have just changed the debate here a bit.

Nah, they are pretty cheap. And well regarded among budget scopes too.

I was thinking about getting the strike eagle 1-8 on Black Friday for my AR10 build% but idk. I’m so stuck on deciding. I’ve never had expierence with decent glass before so I’m nervous I guess lol.

Offset irons does not put you in open. (I can not remember if offset dots do either. )

A magnifier on a dot puts you in tac-optics....or whatever they call non-irons/dot class.

IMO a real magnified optic is better than a dot with a mag. For competition shooting. ( provided you are shooting 200+).

Nonetheless I'm thinking of putting a magnifier behind the red dot for the AR build. I'll put the scope on the Daniel Defense.

I think my current plan is to pick up a red dot just to get this gun up and running, than when i have the extra money I'm gonna get the viper 1-6 with the vortex mount. I kind of want to try out a magnifier at some point in between and if i don't like it I'll just sell it when i go to get the viper.

So a Vortex strikefire followed me home today. Works out good that i can now look for someone who has the trijicon or eotech for me to take a look at in person, and when i finally do get the money for a variable to throw on the ar, this red dot will get moved over to the 10-22 I've been customizing for the girlfriend. Seems likely that unless one of those two scopes i have yet to see ultimately wow me, i'll be getting the 1-6 viper.

Well, update. Ended up going with the strike eagle 1-6. The 1x setting on the 6x was better than the 8x and weight savings is nice whatever it may be. I have an aero mount on the way for it.

Could never find those other scopes to play with including the viper. Next build is going to be a ways off since i have a lot of larger purchases id like to make in the next year. But it will be an ar10 sr25 lr308 yada yada whatever designation it gets this week build. In typical battle rifle fashion.
