I got my PA permit renewed on the spot last week @ Lackawanna County.

Last Thursday they said sorry that you drove 249 miles but NOPE!

Maybe the cocksucker didn’t like my white beard.

PS- here is a great parking tip that the deputy gave me, if you need to or want to hang around Scranton for a while. If you go straight down the street in front of the courthouse for a block and a half. On the right side, turn into the Mall at Streamtown parking garage. Get a ticket & park. Go up stairs to the mall. The dept. store Bascov's has validated parking tickets right on the counters for your convenience, if they are not on the counter they are more than happy to give you one. You original ticket is good for a half hour of free parking and the second validated ticket is good for another 4 hours of free parking. OR you can buy anything in the mall and get a validated ticket with any purchase, even a coffee! They go where ever you like. Free parking!

Kind of fucked up how it's up to the discretion of the sheriff.

Deputy was real nice guy. Sheriff sucked balls. My 20 yr old son took a ride with me and was there when the sheriff said no. My son told me later that he looked at the deputy when the sheriff said no and he said the deputy looked more surprised then I did. So I call bullshit.

My PA license expired this month on the 31st so decided to take a ride back out last Thursday to where I originally got it which was Lackawanna County. Glad I called first because they are not processing renewals until May.
Decided to call Centre county, they said yes they are processing licenses. Well that’s true until I got there and the sheriff said we only process resident licenses. He went on to say that a bunch of sheriffs from different counties got together and decided they no longer want to honor a nonresident license but would not tell me which sheriffs.
So I drove over to the next county which is Clinton County. Young lady at the desk said absolutely no problem and five minutes later had my permit renewed.

So before you waste your time and drive out make sure you call ahead and explicitly state that you are a nonresident license holder.

Did Centre County say no because it was a renewal? I picked up a new non-resident LTCF from Centre about three weeks back without issue with a restricted NY permit.

It was a renewal I needed so don’t know exactly why he said no. He looked at my full carry NY permit and my non resident PA permit and said “a few of us Sheriff’s got to gather in January of this year and decided that we would no longer renew non resident permits” and handed them back to me and said sorry for the long drive. he did renew a resident permit for the person ahead of me.

4 guys I know went to Erie and got their permits Thursday. Was quick and easy. Said they were impressed how efficient it was. Still an infringement on our rights but at least it was efficient.

My wife and I made a short vacation of it to Gettysburg from Amsterdam, NY. With 3 people ahead of me, we were in and out in 45 minutes, with my new PA non-resident LTC. Excellent experience. I forgot about my carry knife when I went through the metal detector. The deputy said “no problem, just pick it up on the way out”

Gettysburg is a cool place to visit. When I am there it gives me an unusual feeling to think about what happened on that very ground not all that long ago.
When I got my permit I forgot about my leatherman too. Same response.

pa was way easier than NY... I think it took wife and I 10 min TOPS to get it............

My utah expired!!! damn. gotta rack up those states!! hehehehe
but with the pa I was able to make it to Kty for our vacation...nice!!!

I picked up my VA non res permit a month ago. It can be done all through the mail. The cost is a little steep at $100 but it adds a couple of states out west that PA does not cover. Interestingly, a PA permit covers VA but VA does not cover PA. The VA permit takes a couple of months to process. Still, its a short trip to the mailbox. It also requires an approved safety course that can be taken online.
