I do wish there were a better way of keeping track of things here, but I don't really have any good ideas on how to go about it.
Maybe people just editing posts to say something is taken. I've been thinking in the lines of more technical solutions, but I guess that's easy enough.

How about setting up this entire thread to only show the items up for grabs? Interested parties should PM the person that posted the item and no replies allowed. Once the item is spoken for, the poster then simply deletes the their post. Those that post more than one item can simply edit the post to say what is still available. Is that doable? I mean .... people are saying "I'll take __________" and then they have to send a PM to the poster anyways to confirm shipping info so why not do it this way?

That all sounds good. People of course would have to be willing to do that maintenance/cleanup. It would be even more relying on people but perhaps also the person who takes something, instead of posting "I'll take ___" could, after PM'ing the giver and setting it up post "Took whatever" , and then delete that post when they post something up. I dunno..it should be very simple to follow, but people tend to have issues following too many rules in a kind of thing like this. The other issue might be that with everything deleted it may seem like the thread isn't really active.

Not many rules really.1.) Post a pic and description of what you are giving away
2.) If you are interested in an item, PM the poster about that item
3.) Once item is confirmed to be available and you take it, to keep the pay it forward going you post "I took _____ and am posting ________".

I have some strawberry plants if anyone wants them. It will be a mix of full grown plants and new smaller runners with roots. I may have some raspberry plants and some iris too. I have to check with a friend first. I’d also like to wait just a bit for it to cool down especially if shipping them. Strawberries are good and produce berries mid June to end of June/first part of July. Good berries but don’t store long unless your freeze them. A few days at best. Raspberries are good and produce two crops. I may also have some blackberries bushes too. VERY SOUR. So sour I can’t always eat them so be warned you’ll have to let them grow more and probably jam them out or something.

Hope someone can make use of this. LH Gould & Goodrich leather revolver holster. It’s got a little wear but still has a lifetime of use left in it. Nice heavy leather.

Heavy duty old school leather sling. About the size of a USGI 1907 leather sling, found on Garands & Springfields. No makers name or any writing on it. About 1 1/4" wide. Two black steel buckles, fully adjustable on both ends. Came to me in a box of stuff and I'll never use it, so off it goes. Just claim it, I'll pay 1st class shippping.
