Let's not forget, not one but two bills had passed all the way up to Cuomo to change the knife laws here in NY to prevent what this article is talking about. Both times the bills had been bipartisan, both times Cuomo vetoed the bills

Yes, it is a ridiculous law. And it is the reason why I carry a fixed blade under 4 in. There's no flicking that open.

i typically carry my White River Knives "knucklehead" around my neck. I prefer carrying there as there is no chance it will be seen if I reach for my phone, lift my hands overhead, bend, or otherwise expose my belt line.

Does anyone know if they measure the knife edge straight from point to base - or do they follow the curve of the edge from point to base?

Take a look at this one. Is ceramic, and won't set off metal detectors... I've been using it for a while and is decent for light to medium cutting, edge has held on for some time now. Comes with small sheath which can be worn under a shirt too. Not a big investment either if lost or you break it.

It seems neck knives have tiny 2 inch blades. I may have to look into non locking folders or fixed blade daggers that are about 4 inches in blade length. 2 inches won't reach anything important for sure.

These are all under 4" and i like them.
One of my next purchases will likely be the Tops C.U.T. 4.0. Im only holding off because i want to buy a gun first. Its sharpened edge is exactly 4"

Same. I've been looking as well. For now, I just have a Gerber Dime, since it's both cheap / I don't care about losing it as much. Also, the blade doesn't lock since it's just a small multi tool.
However, I'd like to carry something that I can just keep on me regardless of where I am. Was looking at one of these, but not sure how secure the sheath is.

Why is it that a small pocket knife that can be opened with one hand to assist you as a tool in your everyday life has to be illegal? Maybe andy the tool cuomo will reply with a legitimate answer.

The problem is how the law is written. It’s too vague. You try to flip it open by holding the handle as intended. It doesn’t open or it partly opens but doesn’t lock- so not a gravity knife. But if the cop holds it by the blade notch and flicks it with the handle dropping down and it opens, it is.

It wasn't even intended as defined with having to flick it with your wrist. It was intended for a real gravity knife that when held facing down without flicking your wrist, the gravity of the blade itself would come down the handle and lock on the open position.
If you have to flick it than gravity isn't the only force used to open the blade. You are using energy from your wrist.

My buddy got jammed up in a Manhattan subway. Cop saw the clip in his pocket, called him over, reached in my friends pocket and took the knife out. It was a spyderco delica. Buddy was going to his car to go fishing. He is a carpenter but that didn’t fly either. Arrested, cuffed, booked, ect. Never been in trouble before. Over 2k in lawyer fees ended up with 6mos probation and if no trouble it gets dropped. This is why I won’t go to nyc.
