Permit wait time?

Handed my app in on the 27th of February in onondoga county, still waiting. I know they have gotten quicker, with process time. Anyone here from onondoga county and how did they contact you letting you know you where approved? And how ling did it take?

My brother applied last month. A few guys he knows said it took them around 6 months in broome county.

Think I might go for it as well.

My brother received his permit today, a lot faster than expected.

Did everything the law requires. Was told by the sheriff everything came back good. Just waiting for judge to sign. That was 5 1/2 months ago. There needs to be a law that they only have 3 months to get it done. If they can't handle there jobs then retire. Get someone else voted in. Nice that they are allowed to keep us from our 2nd amendment rights.

It sucks, but for those of you that think you've waited a long time, there are those that had to wait well over a year to get theirs. Also if you a did a little research in the meantime, you'd find out that there IS a law in place that dictates something on the lines of having a legitimate reason of delay beyond the 6 month period. This is something you can ask the officer that is dealing with your permit. For an example, having a lot of permits to work on is NOT one that would legally qualify, but they'll say and do whatever they feel like doing anyways, so when they get to it is when you'll get your permit basically.

When I applied, the PPO told me it would be 12-18 months. Coming from the private sector, I reminded them that the law in NY gives them 6 months. My comment was met with a chorus of laughs from everyone working there. When I further expedited them, I ended up on the shit list. I still got my Unrestricted within 8 months, but I made an enemy of my local police chief. YMMV.

I was "lucky" in Erie county and was a little over 11 months.

At the time 12-18 months was the going timeline.

I've heard Kearns has the process down to 6-8 months now not sure if this is true but at least it's an improvement. I think I have my wife convinced to go through it

My understanding is that it is much improved now that Wil Fowler is gone. I would credit Alan Brown and Mickey Kearns for that.

For me in Steuben county, it was less than 6 months. The original estimate was 12 to 18 months. None of my references were called. All of my references are female. Not sure if that matters.

All my references called. Back ground checked everything. Just waiting for the judge to sign and them to send it to me. So I can pick up my gun.

I am in Ulster County. Once I handed in all my paper work ( I am a procrastinator) it was 2 weeks when I received my letter in the mail for the meeting with the judge. None of my references were contacted.

One week later met with the judge and gave me a restricted until I take a live fire course and will revisit restriction being lifted. He told me a couple weeks before I would hear from the Sheriff's Dept to pick up my permit. Went and bought my Sig p320 x compact and waited. After 5 weeks I called Sheriff's Dept and asked if permit was there yet and they stated they did and I could come pick it up.

Picked up my permit and went back to gun store to get numbers put on my receipt and back to get added. They told me 3-5 weeks to get my coupon. It has been 3 weeks Friday.

Everything above was the exact same thing for my wife.

Overall the process went very quick. I have already taken the live fire course and plan to take a couple more courses.

The sad part is, I had gotten at least 2 applications previous to this one starting about 15 yrs ago and dragged my ass and never followed through with it.
If I had done it back then, I would have more than likely received full carry as I lived in a different county.
