I fucking hate it when the media and busybodies try to take one snapshot of a person--from 30 fucking years ago--out of context to smear a person. No matter who it is.

Photo looks dumb with bad optics but how about we judge the man based on his policies not one dumb photo when he was in the service.

True. I hate these pictures because they are reckless as hell.

But, smearing people based on decades old pics is now the american way, which is worse.

I'm only agreeing with you, but the smearing this guy based on the photo is despicable in my book. It might be the American way now but it shouldn't be and it's wrong.

The guy was basically a kid when he took the photo, the gun was unloaded with finger off the trigger for a gag photo that was taking a piss at Manuel Noriega. The last thing we should be doing is enabling the pussification of our armed forces and making them walk on eggshells because if they aren't PC to every leftist sensibility this will be dragged out in a political campaign 30 years in the future.

I know nothing about this beyond what I read in this thread but I agree smearing people based on pics of statements from decades back is a very bad precedent, we saw what happened with Brett K, for example.

Yep. We once took a sandbag and put it over a Lance Corporal's head and took a picture of it while he was on his knees with his hands behind his back while we were pointing our rifles at him. I won't post that one but it's stupid shit done out of boredom.

I once posed with a goat's head that we cut off after shooting in the middle of the desert. Don't ask me how we shot a goat in the middle of the desert but we had something else besides MRE's that day. Our Gunny even dressed it and roasted it.
