Pick up your brass....Your mom doesn't work at the range.

I just got back from the range and wasn't too pleased with the way it looked when I got there. Someone shooting a 12 gauge, 223/5.56, 308 and a 40 S&W just blasted away leaving thier residue all over the shoot house. They left the box with all the cardboard ammo boxes on the shooting bench and brass, steel cases, duds and hulls littering the ground and shoot house.

I policed up everything it took about 20 minutes to clean it all up and dump the useless stuff into the trash barrel (right next to the shoot house). There were also two staplers and a box of staples there as well. I secured those in the club house, if they call looking for them I will know who screwed up the range. If they don't call looking for them, the club has two new staplers and staples to go with it.

I guess some people just don't have any sense or manners for that matter.

End rant.

Oh well I shot my 100 rounds of 6.5 Creedmoor and came home.

Unfortunately there are ignorant people everywhere. It pisses me off when I get to the club to shoot, and spend my time cleaning up after someone else who was in "too big of a hurry" to clean up after themselves. I guess their range time is more important than anyone else's!!

Now with the snow melting, lot's of brass appearing on the outdoor ranges! Members at my Club are pretty good about picking up after themselves ( Close to 1400 members ) Could use a little more help dumping the trash cans in the dumpster but at least it makes it to the can!!

Reminds me of the Wildlife Management Area that was about 1/2 mile from the house I grew up in, it was located on county road 132 in Willard (Near Ovid) and had a 100 yard shooting lane there that I used to use every so often. Over the years people would camp there & have bonfires in the middle of the parking lot leaving the burnt wood in place, along with broken beer bottles all over the place and would shoot about 400-500 rounds of shotshells leaving the hulls all over the place. As a result of people trashing the place it has been since closed and no shooting is allowed there anymore. Its sad people can be such pigs, and due to that causing the place to be closed.

Our club is open 24/7/365. No range officers present. Too easy for a non member to sneak in and cause damage or worse.

And....it's not required for anyone to join. You've got every right to shoot elsewhere.

Eh, Camden has cameras, but it's mainly because people were shooting trash (computers, license plates) at the outdoor ranges and not cleaning up. Since the ranges are essentially "open" (chain link fence with no locks) it was deemed reasonable.

I love to be in a gun club but I don't feel like stepping and featching for two or three years to get black balled by some old guy whos ass o didnt kiss right.

One of the ranges I shoot at is outdoors and no one ever picks up their brass. But they don't leave garbage either. It's great. So every time I go there I find hundreds of 556, 9mm and, 45 casings. Then you'll find just about any other caliber in smaller quantities. I've found 338 lapua brass there! I think all the crazy brass is left by the NYers and NJers that go all the way down there and are just casual shooters. The only brass I haven't seen yet is 50 BMG.

We are set up pretty much the same except we have a locked gate. I think our problem is the proximity to Fort Drum. Once I get the cameras up I will know for sure.

Our club installed cameras after a few pails or scrap brass (mainly 22lr) were taken. Because this brass is basically only good for scrap the club sells it to the scrap yard for some of their income. As far as I know the only time the footage is reviewed is when someone reports some sort of abuse violation of club policies. I showed up one day and there was a ton of rifle brass thrown all of the indoor range. Our back stop can't handle rifle rounds, so I reported it to the officers. Sadly I look at the cameras as a necessary evil.

I joined my Club back in 06, There were cameras on the indoor range then which new members were made aware of. The Club had about 350 members at the time. Since then the indoor has had a $100,000 ventilation system upgrade. A few years before the 50 yard range was completely rebuilt from 18 to 28 stations at a cost of about what the ventilation system cost. The Club also purchased 2 parcels of land across the road of 120+ acres so no one could build there ( We already have one problem neighbor )

We also require all new members take our 5 hour orientation, 3 hours of which is the NRA first steps rifle course. I assisted with this class from when it was started and now give it with another member/instructor. As I mentioned above we have about 1400 members, No one has ever gotten up at an orientation and said they didn't want to be a member because of the cameras!

Orientation classes will reopen in the fall ? ( Oct, Nov, Jan and Feb ) and we will have no problem filling them! So anyone with problems with cameras or other Club Rules and Regulations. I hope you find a place to shoot that makes you happy!!

Also just a side note I can Hunt and Shoot on my own land ( Out to 200 yards ) and on land across the road ( Out to 400 yards )

At my last range trip I didn't even get a chance to pickup my brass, people would come up and ask if I needed and then they'd take it after I indicated I didn't want it.

It's like that at the range I belong too as well sometimes, got a handful of members that reload 9, .40 & .45

I shoot at gravel pits on in the mountains three to six miles back in the woods off of the main road. There are brass collectors that roam pit to pit and do the circut several times a day for the brass the people leave behind. I always pick up the brass when ever there is any, mostly 9mm followed by 45acp followed by 40 caliber for handgun ammo. Rifle ammo is generally 223, occasionally I'll get some 30/06, 30/30.

I bought a magnet with a handle on it from Harbor Freight to pick up the shotgun shells and steel case rifle bullets from the area I shoot at. I put the steel rifle cases in a bucket to dump into the recycle trash can, the shotgun hulls go in the regular garbage.

Most of these guys are "PIGS", they never take any trash with them.

This is the first magnet I bought, I bought another that works better from Harbor Freight. I'll have to take a picture of it.
